During “The Heart of the Deck,” players help a mysterious apparition–quite literally a ghostly white dragon man with blue eyes–craft a new card, so he can play one final game and find peace. Players help the ghost create a new card based on the character by answering some questions prompted by the NPC. The apparition thenuses the newHearthstoneHerohe crafts to win his final match, spitting out several quotes fromYu-Gi-Oh!in the process, before moving on.

“White Eyes, Blue Dragon” is aneven more directYu-Gi-Oh!reference, as evident from its title alone. Players intervene in aHearthstonematch between a blue dragon named Setogosa and a bronze dragon named Yumadormu–obvious parallels to Kaiba and Yugi from the card-slinging anime. Presiding over the game, players watch as Setogosa blatantly bends the rules and summons a blue dragon to the field. Players must help Yumadormu defeat his opponent by slaying the apparitions, saving the bronze dragon’s fledglingHearthstoneclub in the process.

Many players couldn’t help but appreciate the hilariousYu-Gi-Oh!references inDragonflight. With its focus on dragons,Dragonflightis the perfect expansion to make connections with the popular card game, especially with Kaiba’s own iconic Blue Eyes White Dragon being so well-known and often-memed. ThatWarcrafthas its own card game withHearthstonemakes it an even more perfect vessel for comedy.
