World of Warcraftplayers who are experiencing performance issues after Patch 10.1 may be able to find relief with this handy trick. While there is no guarantee it will fix their frame rate drops completely, it has helped some players improve their gaming experience afterWorld of Warcraft’s most recent content update.
Patch 10.1, titledEmbers of Neltharion, came toWorld of Warcrafton May 2, bringing with it tons of new content, outdoor activities, and an expansive new subterranean zone. However, it also brought with it some performance issues–severalWoWplayers have reported drastic dips in their FPS, with some crashing to 20 or less, even on high-end PCs.

In their quest to fix their own performance problems, Reddit user andWorld of Warcraftfan Faramita discovered their issue was not caused by the game, but by a defaultsetting in Windows 11. For whatever reason, the “Optimizations for Windowed Games” option was causing their FPS to dip, and deactivating the option fixed it. Players can try this out by navigating to the Settings window in their Start Menu, then going to System, Display, Graphics, and then Change Default Graphics. The option should then be at the bottom of this window.
If that doesn’t help, or if players without Windows 11 are experiencing the issues,Blizzard developershave offered another solution as well. Players should navigate to theirWoWdirectory by going to Options and hitting Show in Explorer in the Battle.net app. Open the retail folder, then the WTF folder, and finally open Config.wtf in Notepad or another text editor. Find the SET SkyCloudLOD line and delete it entirely, then save the file and launch the game. This should eliminate the FPS drops.
These fixes might not help everyone with their performance issues; severalWorld of Warcraftplayers have reported neither solution ameliorating their unstable FPS. Nevertheless, Blizzard is aware of the issue, and is working to provide an official hotfix, so hopefully, one of these tricks can help gamers play in the meantime untilWorld of Warcraftcan do so.
Embers of Neltharionis in out now for players lucky enough to not have any frame rate issues, with it reaching full swing when theAberrus raid coming toDragonflighton May 9. While some fans have expressed concerns with the design of Zaralek Cavern, and others with the characterization of some actors in the story campaign, overall reception seems to be positive. Hopefully, allWorld of Warcraftplayers can enjoyEmbers of Neltharionwithout any performance problems soon.
