An iconic character seems to be returning toWorld of Warcraftin Patch 10.1.5, though with a somewhat small screen time. A common thread inDragonflight’s content updateshas been the Bronze Dragonflight. With the legacy of Deathwing concluded in Embers of Neltharion, the story is slowly shifting away from the Black Dragonflight and towards the Keepers of Time. As such, Patch 10.1.5 ofDragonflightwill feature new Eon’s Fringe dailies that send players back in time to pivotal moments from theWorld of Warcrafttimeline.
Most recently, Blizzard Entertainmentremoved a controversial quest inWorld of Warcraftfrom the new set of dailies, as it involved players ensuring that Alexstrasza remained a captive of the Dragonmaw Clan to preserve the correct flow of time. Given that Alexstrasza suffered sexual abuse during those events, many players found the quest to be in extremely poor taste, especially given the lackadaisical comedic comments made by Chromie. Out of all the key moments inWorld of Warcraft’s long history, surely there had to have been a better option.

According to the new Public Test Realm build, and reported by Wowhead, it seems that Blizzard has found the perfect quest to replace it with. Though permanently wiped out from existence inShadowlands, fans will be able to see Arthas Menethil once again during a moment that arguably set the stage for his descent into darkness. Namely, the quest will askWorld of Warcraftplayers to replace the icy rocks that shatter Invincible’s front legs, as the death of Arthas' noble steed hardens his heart to ultimately commit the Culling of Stratholme.
This event is familiar toWorld of Warcraftfans who read Christie Golden’sArthasnovel, and it’s fascinating to see the event play out in-game for the first time. Being forced to put Invincible out of his misery becomes a character-defining moment for Arthas Menethil, as it could be argued that he would have never become a Death Knight if Invincible survived his fall. Given the memetic popularity of the resurrected Invincible in the community, going back in time also ensures the creation of one of the mosticonicWorld of Warcraftmounts.
Ultimately, the new daily is certainly an upgrade over the removed Alexstrasza quest. The Eon’s Fringe dailies revolve around the theme of how small changes send ripples across time, and Invincible’s death certainly fits the narrative. The storyline culminates in the new megadungeon centered around the Infinite Dragonflight, and players will be able to obtain alegendaryWorld of Warcraftweaponin one of its boss fights.
