Summary
SomeWorld of Warcraftfans are worried Hero Talents may do more harm to class fantasy than good. Though parts of the new Hero Talents look promising,World of Warcraftplayers are concerned they may be forced to play specializations they don’t like just to play the way they want to.
Hero Talents are a new system coming inThe War Withinthat covers character progression from levels 71 through 80. Each class specialization will have two Hero Talent trees to choose from, both of which are inspired by iconic archetypes inWoWhistory. Examples include the San’layn Hero Talent for Blood and Unholy Death Knights, or the Mountain Thane for Fury and Protection Warriors.

However, now that players have seen more about Hero Talents, they are worried the system may have a big issue. Many of the Hero Talent choices are exciting, but each one is only available for two class specializations, leaving characters of the third spec out of luck. For example, theDark Ranger Hero Talent treeWorld of Warcraftrecently revealedis only available to Beast Master and Marksmanship Hunters, much to the chagrin ofWoWfans like Portergauge, who play Survival. He and others who want to play Dark Ranger will be forced to either change to Beast Master or Marksmanship, or else use a Hero Talent they aren’t excited about.
World of Warcraft Hero Talents Endanger Class Fantasy
Hero Talents inWorld of Warcraftdo more than just add new synergies to a class – they also change the visual effects of certain spells and abilities. This means a player’s choice of Hero Talents may drastically change what their character looks like in battle. While fans love the idea of ability skins for theirWorld of Warcraftclasses, they fear tying them to player power may force fans to choose between aesthetics and play style – the same dilemma that caused problems with Covenant Abilities fromShadowlands, whichWoWchanged in a recent update.
This is also indicative of another valid concern with Hero Talents.WoWfan and critic Baal the Warlock pointed out that many of these Hero Talents seem to focus on specific races, many of which are aligned with the Alliance. The Keeper of the Grove andChosen of Elune Druid Hero Talents might be great for Night Elf players inWoW, and the Mountain Thane Warrior Hero Talent for Dwarf fans, but those who play Horde or many other Alliance races might feel excluded by being forced into these archetypes.

Luckily, it is not too late for Hero Talents.World of Warcrafthas indicated it is more than willing to make changes to the system, so hopefully, community feedback can help the developers bring out thefull potential of this excitingThe War Withinfeature.
