World of Warcraftplayers are divided on Vyranoth, one of the new main antagonists introduced inDragonflight. Though many players enjoy what they’ve seen of the character thus far, someWorld of Warcraftfans have criticisms about her design–especially when compared to her fellow Primal Incarnates.

Vyranoth the Frozenheart is one of the Primal Incarnates–the leaders of the anti-Titan faction known as the Primalists. Players were first introduced to her and her siblings, Iridikron and Fyrakk, when her sister Raszageth gave her life to free them at theend of the Vault of the Incarnates Raid fromDragonflight. Even though they have only seen these characters in a couple cutscenes, players have loved what they have seen of the Primal Incarnates so far.

However, some players aren’t sold on the visage form for Vyranoth. The humanoid forms of Fyrakk and Iridikron are unique in a way thatmanyWorld of Warcraftfans love. On the other hand, Vyranoth’s visage form is more conventionally attractive in her appearance than the elemental monstrosities that are her brothers. This was further underscored by new concept artWoWrecently shared of the Primal Incarnate, which showed a more rough, fierce, and alien version of Vyranoth than the more delicate and stately visage depicted in her cinematic model.

Many fans also couldn’t help but draw parallels between Vyranoth and the Winter Queen. As the leader of Ardenweald–one of the four Covenant factions fromShadowlands–theWinter Queen played a big role inWorld of Warcraft’slast expansion. The two share a lot of physical similarities between their color schemes, silhouettes, and even vocal patterns. When compared to the unique appearance of Iridikron and Fyrakk, some fans have found her design to be unoriginal.

Unfortunately, this discrepancy is not unique to the Primal Incarnates or evenWorld of Warcraft. Exaggerated dimorphism between male and female characters–especially large or monstrous ones–is a common stylistic choice, especially in older video games. One look at player races like Orcs, Worgen, or Trolls can show a great example of how widespread it is inWoW. Luckily, this archaic design pattern is becoming less prominent in more modern games, as shown withthe Barbarian inDiablo 4.

That is not to say people dislike Vyranoth, however. She and her siblings have been some of the most well-received villains inWorld of Warcraft’srecent history, and each of their appearances has solidified that even further. Plenty of players love the new villains’ design, and many can’t wait to see what role shehas to play inEmbers of Neltharionand the future ofWoW.
