Wo Long: Fallen Dynastyis a souslike game where players take on the role of a soldier in China during the Later Han Dynasty. With a massive variety of weapons to choose from, enemies to fight, and missions to tackle, this is a challenging and deeply rewarding title with plenty of replay value.Related:Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty: How To Find All Golden Cicada Shells
One of the best things aboutWo Longis arguably its side quests, which the game refers to as Sub Battlefields. There is an array of these for players to tackle, and they add plenty of depth and variety to an already action-packed title.

8Escape From The Capital
Like many ofWo Long: Fallen Dynasty’sside missions, Escape From The Capital players need to complete a requisite side quest to unlock it; in this case, players will need to have finished the Fall Of The Corrupted Eunuch side mission before they can begin Escape From The Capital.

As this side quest’s name suggests, it requires players to flee Luoyang after an invading course has entered the city and surrounded the manor of Zhang Rang. Completing this mission requires players to take down two bosses and yields a number of great rewards once this is done. Going into this side quest with balanced stats is advised (and, if players are unfamiliar withthe game’s stat system, they should familiarize themselves with it).
7The Tiger’s Loyal Subjects
To begin The Tiger’s Loyal Subjects side quest, players will need to have taken down Sun Jian, a formidable boss who appears in the Darkness Over The Hanshui River chapter of the game.
The aim of the side quest is simple; players are tasked with defeating the warriors Han Dang, Cheng Pu, and Huang Dai. While it sounds simple enough, in reality, it’s anything but; this is probably one of the most challenging side missions inWo Long: Fallen Dynastyfor most players, as all three bosses need to be fought at once. It’s worth the struggle, though, for the immense feeling of satisfaction that is obtained from successfully finishing such a difficult side quest. If players are struggling with The Tiger’s Loyal Subjects, they should make sure that they’re usingthe best weapon they can get their hands on.

6Fate of the Entertainer
The Fate Of The Entertainer Sub Battlefield is unlocked by completing the Tyrant’s Final Banquet mission. It requires players to track down a mysterious entertainer and take out the boss Shuigui, too.

To make it to the boss, players will need to take out a whole host of enemies on the way, and defeating Shuigui himself is no mean feat. Finishing this side quest rewards players with the Entertainer Set, which is certainly one of the more visually interesting sets of light armour in the game. Note that pieces of the set are also available as random drops in a handful of other missions in the game.
5Legend Of The Thunder God
As one of the later-stage Sub Battlefields inWo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Legend Of The Thunder God revolves around hunting down and defeating Leishi, the Thunder God himself. Frankly, players can expect to die a fair few times during this encounter.
This might sound kind of intimidating, but, while Leishi certainly packs a punch, he’s fairly slow and most of his attacks are telegraphed well in advance. Calling reinforcements to help deal with him is worthwhile if players are struggling with this particular encounter, too (andthe stronger the reinforcements, the better). Completing the Legend Of The Thunder God will net players a number of useful items, as well as a Lieutenant-General Helmet, plus the battle with the titular Thunder God is thrilling and highly memorable to boot.

4The Crouching Dragon’s Trial
Unlockable by completing The Crouching Dragon Roars, The Crouching Dragon’s Trial is easily one of the most arduous Sub Battlefields in the entirety ofWo Long: Fallen Dynasty, requiring players to take on multiple waves of enemies, as well as several bosses - no mean feat giventhe title’s tricky battle system.
Fortunately, players who die partway through the mission don’t need to start it from scratch; they’ll respawn and can continue from the wave of enemies that they’d made it up to. Still, The Crouching Dragon’s Trial is absolutely not for the faint of heart, and players should make sure to prepare properly and stock up on items before attempting to tackle it.

3The Scarlet Crystal
As, perhaps, one of the more lighthearted side quests inWo Long, The Scarlet Crystal requires players to have a friendly duel with an NPC named Hong Jing to see if she’s up to the task of fulfilling her deceased brother’s wish of ridding the world from the influence of the Elixir.

The game states clearly that Hong Jing is incredibly determined to follow through on her goal here, so players don’t actually have the option of declining to duel with her. While she’s a very powerful spellcaster, she’s also quite a stationary target; in fact, while she’s casting, she stands completely still, leaving her more or less a sitting duck for players to counter at will. Players should also make sure touse a top-tier weapon for the encounter.
2Like Father, Like Son
Another of the less serious Sub Battlefields inWo Long, Like Father, Like Son requires the player to duel with the NPCs Sun Ce and Sun Jian. Sun Ce wishes to spar against a worthy opponent to test his skills, and, hearing of this, Sun Jian wants to be involved, too.
At first, the battle will consist of the player and Sun Ce only, but don’t be deceived; Sun Jian will join the fray once players have whittled Sun Ce’s health bar down low enough. Note that Sun Ce is a fairly aggressive opponent, and the most viable strategy for taking him out is waiting for his stamina to drop between his flurries and catching him off guard. Once Sun Jian joins the fight, players need to be extra careful not to get surrounded by him and Sun Ce and do their best not to lose sight of either warrior for too long. So long as players do this and avoid makingcommon beginner mistakes, then the pair should go down before long.

1The Uninhibited Heart
Easily one of the most meaningful side quests in all ofWo Long: Fallen Dynastyis The Uninhibited Heart, which provides some fantastic exposition of the characters of Xun Yu and Guo Jia (the worldbuilding inWo Longis great andsomething that really sets it apart from other soulslikes) .
Guo Jia, a highly talented strategist, has mysteriously gone missing at the start of the quest. Players have to help the conflicted Xun Yu track down and locate him. In order to unlock the side mission, players need to have completed War’s Flames Blaze Fiercely, and it’s recommended that anyone starting The Uninhibited Heart is level 65 at a minimum.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynastyis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
