The Quarryis another example of Supermassive Games' interactive horror experience blurring the line between movies and games. Unfortunately, some players have had no success while trying to unlock one ofThe Quarry’s specific achievements, leading some to think it is presently glitched and therefore unattainable.

Similar toUntil DawnandThe Dark Pictures Anthology,The Quarryfeatures multiple story paths that switchbased on player choice. While this allows for plenty of endings and bonuses for players to find, the requirements for getting the Hard Pass achievement have not yet been determined.

What The Hard Pass Requirements Are

The Hard Pass achievement is hidden on the achievement lists for PC and console versions, but still viewable on certain trophy/achievement hunting sites. Unfortunately, the only textual hint given in the description is “Refused Eliza’s help.” This is in reference tothe mysterious old woman of Hackett’s Quarrywho appears between each chapter and demands Tarot cards from the player.

Eliza’s role in the game is made clear at the end of Chapter 9 if the player picks up a specific tarot card (the Hierophant), but her presence is mainly used to offer predictions of the future. Therefore, refusing Eliza’s help could be interpreted in several ways, such as choosing to MOVE ON at each tarot request or not picking up any tarot cards at all.

Since there arechoices for every chapter ofThe Quarry, finding the criteria to refuse Eliza’s help has been surprisingly difficult. At the time of writing, a few players have unlocked the achievement through illegitimate means but no conclusive route is known.

Tried and Failed Achievement Attempts

Many players have congregated on message boards to discuss various tactics and routes they have taken in search of this achievement, includingseasoned trophy hunterPowerPyx. Comments include the overlapping combinations of specific tarot card pickups, interactions, gameplay choices, and so forth.

One especially determined player has attempted multiple repeat playthroughs with this attitude in mind. Their attempts have included: picking up zero tarot cards, picking up ONLY the Hierophant card, letting all the Hacketts survive, watching no future premonitions, watching all the premonitions, and doing differently to what the premonitions show. Despite all this, the trophy/achievement has not yet popped for them.

However, it is possible that the trophy is just bugged, and the solution has been discovered already by many unfortunate players. This is backed up by the fact the achievement is not marketed as especially difficult (i.e: only a silver trophy on PlayStation versions), andall the otherQuarryachievements have guideswritten about them already.

Potential Solutions May Be Coming Soon

Determined players have not given up on this trophy; despite the lack of success, people are still pitching ideas and attempts. One or two gamers have begun dataminingThe Quarry’s game data to see which pieces of information are being saved. The uncovered code points to an interesting discovery: game data tracks ‘ElizaRefused’ and ‘ElizaMoreInfoCount’ respectively, implying that a specific choice combination is still possible.

Some players have taken to asking the developers on social media too, but there has currently been no official word back yet. If this is a glitch or bug, then a future patch could hopefully rectify this issue. Until then, gamers are persisting with the search until a tangible solution is found.

The Quarryhas so many endingsand story paths to choose from, which only exacerbates the achievement hunting. Eventually, the route to this Hard Pass trophy will be confirmed and unlocked by players, which will hopefully satisfy all the eager completionists trying to be the first to legitimately claim a surprisingly unyielding trophy.

The Quarryis available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
