It’s safe to say thatCyberpunk 2077has had a troubled start and even more troubled legacy. With CD Projekt Red’s most recent title being hyped up as one of the most anticipated games of 2020, the final version ofCyberpunk 2077released at launch was buggy and unfinished. And now one of the biggest proponents ofCyberpunk 2077recently revealed that he hasn’t even played the game.
Since his memorable debut during E3 2019,Keanu Reeveshas been at the forefront of all thingsCyberpunk 2077. The character Reeves plays in the game, Johnny Silverhand, has been cited as one of the greatest aspects of the game, in addition to all of the promotional material forCyberpunk 2077Reeves has appeared in. Yet, it turns out that the actor has not even played the actual game.

In a recent interview with The Verge, it was revealed thatKeanu Reeves hasn’t playedCyberpunk 2077, stating that he doesn’t play video games. While Reeves did mention that he has seen demonstrations of the game in action, he himself has never playedCyberpunk 2077. While this goes against previous reports made by CD Projekt Red, it does seem rather odd that Reeves hasn’t experienced a project that he was so deeply involved in.
The fact thatKeanu Reeves was seen buying Johnny Silverhand merchback in March of this year seems fairly indicative of a certain attachment he feels towards the project as a whole, despite how it ultimately turned out. So one can take Reeves at his word that he hasn’t played the game because he doesn’t play video games in general.
It’s amazing to see how long the controversy surroundingCyberpunk 2077has managed to persist. It’s been over a year sinceCyberpunk 2077first launched and it’s still a far cry away from the experience that most were hoping to have at launch. A newroadmap of content updates and DLC forCyberpunk 2077was delayed until 2022, so it may still be some time before fans see the game reach its full potential.
Earlier this year, numerous lawsuits were filed against CD Projekt Red over the botched launch ofCyberpunk 2077and only now hasCD Projekt Red entered into settlement talkswith the investors that filed the lawsuit. All the while, the studio is still trying to actively fix all of the ongoing issues withCyberpunk 2077. It will be interesting to see what the future holds forCyberpunk 2077going forward.
Cyberpunk 2077is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions releasing in 2022.
