Summary
Recent news surroundingTwitchthis week has suggested that the Amazon-owned company is considering loosening its restrictions on certain policies. Alongsidesites like YouTube and Kick, Twitch is a well-known broadcasting service that’s become home to a wide variety of content creators since 2011. However, even though Twitch has given some incredibly renowned people a platform to share their thoughts on, it’s not against banning streamers if they violate the Terms of Service or Community Guidelines.
Penalties onTwitchtypically vary based on the offenses that occurred during a live stream. The worst punishment streamers can face is being permanently suspended since Twitch’s current policy states that there is no opportunity to appeal the ruling. Due to this, large streamers such as Dr Disrespect, IShowSpeed, and Destiny have been unable to return to the site after having their channels permanently banned. Now that it’s been revealed Twitch is considering looking into its policy on banned channels, several of these streamers could begin using the platform again.

Twitch’s CEO Ponders Giving Banned Streamers “Another Chance”
The speculation that several banned streamers could be returning is based on new comments made byDan Clancy, the current CEO of Twitch. During an interview with Quin69, Clancy addressed various questions pertaining to banned broadcasters. The topic of lifting bans isn’t new but has been circulating lately due to IShowSpeed and Kai Cenat’s debate on the matter. As such, the CEO mentioned that he would like to figure out a method in which he can give people a second chance. Clancy emphasized that doing this would need to be scalable and fair for everyone involved.
Specifically, Quin69 opted to ask about the situation surrounding Destiny, a streamer who typically provides political commentary.Destiny was banned on Twitchin March 2022 after his comments on trans women in sports received criticism. In response, Clancy said, “I’m not gonna talk about any specific case. All I’ll say is this is an area that we’re looking at to figure out what’s the right way to give people another chance”. He also gave a nod to those who are not widely known streamers, citing affiliates that may have around five concurrent viewers as people who also deserve similar opportunities.
WithTwitch considering second chances for permabans, prominent names such as Dr. Disrespect, IShowSpeed, Adin Ross, and Ice Poseidon have been thrown into the ring for consideration. While it seems there are fans of each streamer who would be excited to have these personalities back on the Amazon site, it may be too late. Following the ban, a number of these content creators migrated to different services. For example, Destiny, iShowSpeed, and Dr. Disrespect have found a community on YouTube whereas Adin Ross has become a staple of Kick.
It seems unlikely that IShowSpeed will come back to Twitch since he is finding a lot of success on YouTube after having just surpassed 20 million followers. Of course, any of these streamers could make the choice to broadcast on more than one platform, similar to howxQc splits his time between Kick and Twitch. Though xQc only does this because of his multimillion-dollar contract with the Stake-owned site, sharing his time appears to have been beneficial for his audience that prefers certain platforms to others. Even so, the aforementioned streamers have had yet to officially comment on whether they’d like to come back to Twitch.
