Darkest Dungeonfeatures several locations that must be cleared on your way to the manor. Each location (or zone) contains different enemies and challenges, requiring you to tailor your party composition accordingly. That includes picking thebest heroes for each dungeon, equipping them with the best trinkets, and buying them the right provisions.

Darkest Dungeontreats provisions as consumable items. They are meant to be used with curios inside dungeons for additional loot, clear obstacles to open up new paths, and remove debuffs, among other benefits.

An undead army walks the forgotten corridors ofthe Ruinsthat were once the seat of your noble line. You will find several curios here that require Holy Water or need to be opened with Skeleton Keys, so get them as needed from the Caretaker.

Antivenom is not required because the Ruins have no enemies that deal blight damage. The same is true with Bandages, but bring some just in case you cut yourself in a trap.

With aRuins-specific party composition, you can reduce the amount of Food and Torches to save money on provisions inDarkest Dungeon.

Riddled with corpses, filth, and disease, the Warrensare home to the Swinefolk inDarkest Dungeon. Half man and half pig, their sole purpose of living is to catch and feed on any humans who come near their lair.

Poisonous spiders and creatures are common encounters in the tunnels here, so bringAntivenomsto counter their effects. Bandages are needed because the Warrens contain a lot more traps than the Ruins. If your heroes havegood scouting quirks inDarkest Dungeon, you can disarm traps and save money on Bandages.

Holy Water is only needed for a couple of curios, so save gold on that as well. Most importantly,Food is not as important in the Warrens as in the other dungeons. This is because the location has multiple curios that can be cleansed with Medicinal Herbs for more Food stacks than you know what to do with.

The Wealdis one of the more challenging zones inDarkest Dungeon. Once beautiful and serene, the woods leading to Hamlet are now overtaken by a strange spread of corruption. Expect to find unnatural fungal creatures and humanoids with fungal growth.

The Weald is one of two dungeons with a high number of blockages, sobuy several Shovelsfrom the Caretaker. Like the Warrens, the Weald also has a curio that can be cured with the Medicinal Herb for Food. They are a bit rare though, so you still need to pack Food while buying provisions inDarkest Dungeon.

Furthermore, the Weald contains several curios and enemies that deal both blight and bleed damage. You need a good number of Bandages and Antivenom to cater all of them. Youonly need Holy Water for the Troubling Effigy- it is a rare curio that gives you a positive quirk.

Lastly, bring more Torches than normal, as the dungeon has long corridors and paths that most often need to be backtracked. It is pretty common to run out of Torches while running the Weald.

All sorts of nightmarish Fishmen walk the water-logged caves ofthe CoveinDarkest Dungeon. It is another dungeon, like the Weald, thatrequires several Shovelsdue to the high number of blockages. Enemies only deal bleed damage here, so skip buying Antivenom from the Caretaker.

Medicinal Herbs are the most important provisionto buy for the Cove inDarkest Dungeon. You need them to debuff traps and release booby-trapped chests for loot, as well as to interact with Fish Carcasses for Food and Corals, to remove negative quirks.

Food

All

All fourDarkest Dungeonquests are lengthy and taxing. You need all the Food to stop your heroes from dying of starvation.

Shovel

There are no blockages to clear, or curios that require a Shovel.

Antivenom

Except for the first quest, you will find a few blight-dealing enemies in the other three.

Bandage

Enemies do a lot of bleed damage, so do not hold back from buying all the Bandages.

Medicinal Herbs

Always be ready to cure a debuff or two in the same round.

Skeleton Key

There are no locked chests or curios that require a Skeleton Key.

Holy Water

Certain enemies, especially the bosses, can apply powerful debuffs. Use Holy Water to increase your resistance against them.

Torch

You do not want to be left in the dark while running the finalDarkest Dungeonquests. Enemies here hit incredibly hard.

The titularDarkest Dungeonresides beneath the manor as the final location to beat. It has four different quests, each harder than the previous one. The enemies you face here are of a different type, and these hellish abominations do stress damage with each attack.

Every battle can be your last. Hence, spare no expense when buying provisions for theDarkest Dungeons. Buy as many of every provision as you can, except for Shovels and Skeleton Keys, as they serve no purpose here.

The Courtyard is, by default, an extremely lengthy and challenging dungeon. Take all the Food possible, and try to get more from curios.

Shovels are required for both curios and removing obstacles. you may always skip curios for loot, but you still need at least three Shovels to clear the path.

The Courtyard is full of blood-sucking enemies that do bleed damage. Bandages can also be used with Piles of Strange Bones.

Cleanse Forgotten Delicacies to get extra Food stacks. Medicinal Herbs also come in handy to remove powerful debuffs during combat.

Finding locked boxes is rare in the Courtyard, but using Skeleton Keys replaces the trinkets inside with random loot.

Save Holy Water for Damned Fountains to significantly reduce stress levels inDarkest Dungeon. Do not use Holy Water on heroes with the Crimson Curse!

The Courtyard is already set at maximum light levels. The only reason you need Torches is to increase accuracy before each battle, and to use on Throbbing Cocoons to reduce stress.

The Blood

The Blood can be used with several curios for bonus loot and to keep your cursed heroes in check.

Buying provisions is different forthe CourtyardinDarkest Dungeon, since there are no short, medium, or long runs. You only enter the Courtyard once, and only after completing around a dozen quests, so you shouldtake as many provisions as possibleto make the first run count.

It also matterswhich heroes you choose for the Courtyard, so you should play to your stylistic strengths. The vampiric DLC is unlike the other base locations, and should be treated as such.

You do not need any Food for the first two difficulty levels. However, the Endless Harvest can include the Miller’s Hearth curio to let you camp.

There are no blockages or obstacles in the Farmstead.

Various enemies can cause blight, so best to have an Antivenom in your inventory.

You do not bleed that often in the Farmstead, but you also do not want to challenge the RNG dice ofDarkest Dungeon.

Almost every enemy can cause debuffs. Use Medicinal Herbs to remove them and their negative effects.

Boost your defenses to increase your survival chances. Save one Holy Water for the Eldritch Altar. It removes one negative quirk.

The light levels are always at maximum in the Farmstead.

Whatever crashed upon Miller’s Farm from beyond the stars has somehow distorted the flow of time. The Farmsteadis another DLC that plays differently inDarkest Dungeon. You cannot move or explore, and your only goal is to survive an endless wave of enemies while taking breaks in between when allowed.

Much like the other DLC, the Courtyard, players should stock up on as many provisions as they can. The objective is simple - survive - to be sure to be prepared for a long fight.
