Watch Dogs Legionlaunched to some controversy as one of Ubisoft’s first open world titles following the rushed release ofGhost Recon Wildlands, prompting the company to delayLegionalongside a few other titles to allow for more polish. Despite these delays,Watch Dogs Legionlaunched in October 2020 without an online mode, something its predecessorWatch Dogs 2had from day one. Added to the factWatch Dogs Legion’s online mode patch was delayedearlier in March, fans of the dystopian hacker’s open world have had to wait a while for this update, with Ubisoft owing the delay to a variety of technical issues within the PC version causing the game to crash.
The game’s state at launch was notably still rather unpolished, but overall changes to the title ultimatelygaveWatch Dogs Legiona reasonable rating overall. The new online mode could be the breath of fresh air this dystopian version of London needs to get players back intoWatch Dogs Legion, though the 6 month wait some players have had to sit through before experiencing the game online could be a case of too little, too late to reignite interest in the game.
Watch Dogs Legion’s cross-generation release could be part of the game’s technical woes, similar to those seen withCyberpunk 2077recently. The added burden of releasing across a wide variety of platforms, coupled with the infinitely varied hardware from PC gamer to PC gamer, means these issues aren’t likely to vanish soon.
Combined with a good sale here and there,Watch Dogs Legion’s online multiplayer could help propel the game back into relevance. As it stands, however, this new update for PC is just a step in the right direction for givingWatch Dogs Legiona more finished feel across all current platforms.
Watch Dogs Legionis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
