13Leaving After Graduation

When Takemichi graduates, he leaves his town and never looks back. He does a series of odd jobs to make ends meet, eventually finding himself working at a DVD store with a manager who’s younger than he is.

While this might seem like a fair decision because his life at home was hell, his leaving set off a series of events that led to Hinata’s death. Now, Takemichi must do all that he can to save Hinata and his friends from the past.

12Not Fact-Checking His Cousin Masaru

Although this part of the series gets corrected by Takemichi’s time travel, in the original timeline, Takemichi takes his cousin Masaru at face value when he tells him he is the leader of the third years from Shibuya Middle School.

This leads to Takemichi and his friends getting absolutely destroyed in a fight with the delinquents that Masaru claimed to be the leader of, and ultimately having to be their errand boys until Takemichi left at graduation. This might not seem major, but the events of this day are what led Takemichi to leave for a new life and Hinata’s death.

11Watching Akkun Jump

As time passed Takemichi became more invested in stopping theTokyo Manji gang. This leads him to a meet-up with an old friend, Akkun, at the hostess bar he is now running. Akkun gives Takemichi valuable intel about the dynamic among the Tokyo Manji gang’s leadership, stating that Mikey changed after Draken’s death.

After telling Takemichi this, Akkun jumps from the roof of his hostess bar and dies. One of Takemichi’s biggest mistakes is not intervening when Akkun climbed up on the edge.

10Letting His Guard Down On August 3rd

After middle school, Takemichi is hospitalized following the fight with Moebius. Draken and Mikey visit him and resolve their issues. This leads Takemichi to relax about the potential rift in theTokyo Manji Gang. So, on August 3rd, 2005, the day Draken is supposed to die, Takemichi lets down his guard.

Not only does this cause Takemichi to leave Hinata alone in the rain on their date, but it also allows a carefully plotted attempt on Draken’s life to occur.

9Assuming That Everything Would Be Okay If He Saved Draken

In the first part of season 1, the main goal was changing the future through the action of saving Draken from hisdeath on August 3rdand preventing Mikey from changing. This was supposed to stop Kisaki from joining the Tokyo Manji Gang, which turned them onto a violent path in the original timeline.

While saving Draken in the past did save Hinata and Akkun in the future, Kisaki couldn’t let Takemichi and Naoto win. As soon as Takemichi and Hinata are reunited, Kisaki has Akkun kill Hinata, with Akkun dying in the process. Not only did saving Draken not save Hinata, but it didn’t save Akkun either.

8Punching The New Third Division Captain

In the latter half of season 1, a new third division captain of Tokyo Manji Gang is appointed, Kisaki Tetta. Takemichi knows Kisaki is the reason behind the change in Tokyo Manji Gang’s philosophy, as well as the death of Akkun and Hinata in the future. This pushes Takemichi to punch Kisaki at a formal Toman meeting.

While he’s not the only one who wants to punch Kisaki, fans included, Takemichi totally oversteps his rank (which was no rank at the time) and makes Mikey and Draken look bad. Moreover, he ends up getting punched, twice.

7Letting Kisaki Save Mikey

On October 31st, 2005, a brutal battle betweenTokyo Manji Gangand Valhalla took place, with the members of Valhalla plotting to take out Toman leadership. While Takemichi’s main goal was to make sure Baji survived the fight, he also should have been protecting those whose deaths might lead to the division or fundamental change of Toman.

When Mikey was cornered by Valhalla, Takemichi started running towards him, unfortunately, Kisaki got there first. This led to Kisaki gaining support from members of Toman, including Draken.

6Missing Baji’s Fatal Injury

While there wasn’t much Takemichi could do about Baji getting stabbed, other than if didn’t get distracted by Mikey, which was equally important, he failed to notice Baji’s fatal injury. This led to Baji taking on 50 Valhalla members with a stab wound.

His main goal for this mission was to prevent Baji’s death, but instead, Takemichi got distracted and let Baji get stabbed. He then continued to let Baji fight because he didn’t look closely enough. Moreover, he watched Baji stab himself in order to not let Kazutora get the final blow. Present-day Draken described this day as significant to the fundamental change in Toman, and Takemichi failed to do much about it.

5Accepting A Drink From Kisaki

When he comes back to the future after being made the head of the first division of Toman, Takemichi finds himself in a new world where he is a top executive of the Tokyo Manji Gang. There, he goes to a meeting of higher-ups and meets Kisaki. Together with Chifuyu, Takemichi steps outside and has a drink with Kisaki.

The drinks were laced with something that caused Takemchi and Chifuyu to pass out, and when they awoke, they were taped to their chairs. Accepting their drinks led to Chifuyu’s death and Takemichi getting shot in the leg.

4Having Akkun Kill Hinata

At the beginning of season 2, Takemichi comes back to a future where Toman Kisaki has corrupted Mikey, and Chifuyu is killed. Kazutora saves him, only to have him arrested by Naoto. Naoto shows him evidence that he planned the hit on Hinata, asking Akkun to do the deed.

Takemichi shouldn’t have had Akkun kill anyone for him. He also should have at least known who he was having killed before asking Akkun to kill for him. Takemichi regretted this one more than anything and was in disbelief when Naoto showed him the tapes.
