TimeSplitterswas originally released in 2000 to critical success and quickly cultivated a fanbase. The game’s brand of action-based first-person shooting was praised and it has since been compared toGoldeneyepartially because of staff working on both projects. The followingTimeSplittersgames built on the initial success of the game and established the series as an important first-person shooter franchise. So much so, thatTimesplittersis often looked back on as an underrated classic. It is, therefore, no surprise that the prospect of a new game made by fans has excited the gaming world.

TimeSplitters Rewindappears to have half the maps from the original game blocked out. There have also been plenty of weapons from the originals that are ready to be implemented. The renderings look impressive, but it is also evident that the game has a long way to go before players will be able to get hold of it. The fan-made game is made as a passion project and although it will be highly anticipated, players will have to settle for sporadic updates for now.
Since THQ Nordic acquired the licence forTimeSplittersthere had been rumors that the fan-made project would have to stop. However, the update addresses these concerns, claiming the acquisition has “not affected development in any way” and the game is going ahead. Furthermore, there has been renewed hope thatTHQ Nordic will use licence to make a newTimeSplittersgame. Fans of the series will be thrilled at the prospect of twoTimeSplittersgames 15 years after the last games release.
Since 2005 there have beenleaked art from possibleTimeSplitterssequelsbut this has not resulted in a game that fans could play. However, the images showcased byTimeSplitters Rewindhas an end product in mind and the future looks bright for the franchise. The latest renderings fromTimeSplittersRewindlook promising and while there isn’t a release date yet, the prospect of new games in the series is better than nothing.
