After surprising fans by appearing as a video game character inThe Witcherseason 3, Hugh Skinner isn’t sure if – or when – his character will resemble his persona in the game.
In the past, Netflix’sThe Witcherhas played fast and loose with continuity from the source material. The primary example is the season 3 inclusion of Radovid, the King of Rednania in thebest open-world game,The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The magic-hating tyrant in the game is a far cry from the character that cropped up in the newestThe Witcherseason. After getting entangled with the political machinations of Philippa (Cassie Clare) and Dijkstra (Graham McTavish), Jaskier (Joey Batey) meets the Prince, second in line for the throne. The version of this character is an attractive young man who appeals to Jaskier on a human level. The two share vulnerability with each other and an eventual love affair.

Skinner played Radovid with heart and empathy, making hisfuture inThe Witchersuspicious. But when speaking toScreen Rant, Skinner admitted he didn’t know if this version of Radovid was genuine or if fans see him become the formidable and dangerous leader from the games. “I don’t know whether I’ll be back, or what will happen next, but I know the initial chats were very much like, ‘This is the beginning of him,’” Skinner explained. “So, who knows? Maybe he will be more if he comes back, more like the game, in the next one, because this is very much the beginning of his story.”
The only thing connecting Radovid to his video game counterpart is his name and location in Redania. So far, he resembles nothing of what he becomes in the games. The powerful mage inThe Witcherlore, Philippa, is surprised when she takes him along and sees that he has a talent for subterfuge. Even more unexpected is his relationship with Jaskier. The two have an emotional connection that deepens throughout the season. But this is so far removed from his appearances in the games that fans should take Skinner at his word. This is just the beginning of the story.
There are many indicators that the Radovid fans see now will not be the person later on. His talent for court intrigue should be the first red flag hinting that he and Jaskier may not live happily ever after.Though everyone loves Jaskier, and he deserves happiness, it seems unlikely that he will run away with a prince and spend their days together. Nothing on The Continent ever goes how it should, and Radovid’s character in the games could be a big hint at that fact. Even if Skinner doesn’t know where the character is going yet, we may seeThe Witcherseason 3 turn Radovid into the most evil character inThe Witcher.
The Witcherseason 3, vol. 2, will air on May 27, 2025.
