Geralt of Rivia, star ofThe Witcherseries of books, games, and a recent Netflix show, is known for his monster hunting prowess. From striga to werewolves, the Butcher of Blaviken knows how to handle himself in a fight. Being a Witcher isn’t just about knowing how to swing a sword. It’s also about being prepared for the fight ahead through meticulous crafting, brewing, and alchemy.

But what happens if Geralt is out of his element and thrown into a bestiary unknown? If Triss Merigold were to accidentally transport Geralt into the Galar region ofPokémon, would he be able to survive? Here are 5 Pocket Monsters that he could absolutely beat in a fight, and 5 that would destroy him.
10Can: Jigglypuff
Maybe it’s unfair to pit Jigglypuff, a pink ball of… puff, against a bonafide monster slayer. But if thePokémon series has taught us anything, it’s that about 90% of the fights in that game will be unfair (seriously, why doesn’t everyone just have 6 Pokémon in their party?).
Jigglypuff isn’t a pushover by any means. Its ability to put enemies to sleep shouldn’t go unaccounted for. However, Geralt’s weaponry and magic Witcher stamina to keep him from going down, which doesn’t exactly spell “victory” for the pink fluff.

9Can’t: Mimikyu
Mimikyu might look deceptively unassuming, but that’s the entire point. Its Pikachu veneer is only a tool to trick people into being friendly towards it. Looks can be deceiving, however, as underneath lies an eldritch horror that is said to drive people mad just on sight alone.
While Geralt isn’t one to be driven mad, the one-two punch of Mimikyu’sLovecraftianbackground and its “Disguise” ability might just give it the edge in battle it needs to overcome the White Wolf.

8Can: Aegislash
Out of all the Pokémon battles where skill with a sword would come in handy, it makes sense that it would be against the one that’s a literal sword. Aegislash, the second stage evolution of Honedge (with Duoblade in the middle), is a fearsome Pokémon with wonderful dueling capabilities.

However, Geralt is also a master of the blade and, combined with his Witcher senses and reflexes, poses a great threat. Aegislash makes the fatal mistake of having only one weapon, as well. If two heads are better than one, shouldn’t the same go for swords?
7Can’t: Psyduck
Sure, on the outside, Psyduck looks like an unassuming aquatic bird that’s plagued with chronic headaches. Seems like a fight against the Butcher of Blaviken would be a lock in Geralt’s favor, right?
Wrong. Psyduck’s headaches cause massive psychic outbursts which can pose a real problem for people without the proper gear (like a lead helmet, perhaps). It’s probably very frustrating for the monsters to fight such a practiced individual, which means lots and lots of headaches from the duck beast.

6Can: Vaporeon
Vaporeon is a fan favorite Eeveelution, and thus it almost hurts to point out that it stands very little chance against the Witcher. Sure, it’s swift and, uh, wet, but that won’t do it much help against some of Geralt’s more powerful signs and potions.
Really, when you get down to it, Vaporeon is a glorified drowner. Anyone who’s spent a couple of hours inThe Witcher 3: The Wild Huntwill know that drowners are hardly a threat, and can usually go down in one or two swings. Keep your water dogs away from Geralt!

5Can’t: Arceus
This one’s a bit of a no-brainer. In the lore of Pokémon, Arceus is the “Alpha” and is said to have (possibly) created the universe and everything in it. Heady philosophical quandaries about the world of Pokémon divinity aside, it stands to reason that one monster hunter would not be able to defeat this one.

Arceus can also change its typing, giving it a distinct advantage against any plans Geralt may have had for a particular form. Hard to prepare for a fight against mutable deities!
4Can: Doduo
Doduo is a first-genbird Pokémonwith two heads. Other than that, there’s nothing really remarkable about it. It’s just a weird, seemingly flightless bird that gets in the way a lot.
Sure, two heads are better than one, but Geralt, as established has two swords. In a fighting situation, those would probably cancel each other out, leaving Geralt to secure a victory easily. It almost seems like bullying, but them’s the breaks. Every game has to have fodder, and for the Witcher, it’s this bird.

3Can’t: Dodrio
Dodrio,on the other hand, has one critical advantage on the White Wolf: three heads. Dodrio is, for lack of a better term, aunit. The three heads, combined with the cool black feathers and menacing eyes, tell you that this is not a Pokémon to be taken lightly.
This wouldn’t be the first time Geralt fought a beast with more than one head, but it would certainly be the last. Dodrio’s lightning-fast speed, versatility, and razor-sharp beaks would rend the Witcher limb from limb faster than he could sign Aard.

2Can: Zapdos
Zapdos is a fearsome legendary bird. The trio of it, Moltres, and Articuno represent an elemental storm that defines early Pokémon lore. However, while it would be a tough match, in the end, Geralt would come out on top. Zapdos is effectively a giant griffon, which is one of the earlier beasts you fight in the third game.

It may have powerful lightning powers, but Geralt is smart enough to overcome those by just simply wearing rubber boots and avoiding rubbing any nearby balloons on his hair.
1Can’t: Ditto
Ditto in its base form? Sure. Ditto using its power to copy other Pokémon? Absolutely not. Ditto’s ability to switch forms on the fly would give it a huge advantage on Geralt. Geralt’s using water to defeat a Ditto-Charizard? Boom, now it’s a Venusaur. Oh, Geralt’s switched to using firebombs? Well now it’s a Blastoise, and so on and so on.
It would really be impossible for Geralt to ever gain an advantage or even adequately prepare for a fight against Ditto. Toss a coin to your Witcher, cause he’ll need it to pay for his hospital bills.
