Jeffrey Dean Morgan has further discussed the idea of a spin-off toThe Walking Deadthat would follow Negan, who was a primary antagonist ofthe main series' previous seasons. The villain has since gone through a “redemption arc,” so it would make sense for Negan to get time as the lead character.
Morgan is a decorated actor who has had roles in many different projects, includingBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,Rampage,Supernatural,andThe Unholy. Obviously, the actor’s most iconic role is the infamous and fan-favorite Negan fromThe Walking Deadtelevision series. Morgan was able to bring the wisecracking bat-wielding nemesis to life on the small screen.

Morgan went on to discuss the idea of what a Negan spin-off show would entail and what he would like to see for the character in the future. After all,the end ofThe Walking Deaddoesn’t necessarily mean the end of Negan, nor does it mean that the character will survive (as the creators have often diverted from the book’s storyline). The actor went on to say to TVLine, “There’ve been things discussed with me and network people." Of course, Morgan also made it clear that the future isn’t guaranteed, saying, “We’ll see. I mean, Negan could still find his way six feet under [before Season 11 concludes], so that could be a problem unless it’s a prequel.”
Morgan still believes there are still stories to be told with Negan. If a spin-off were to happen, then there’s plenty of opportunities to explore more withtheWalking Deadcharacter. Morgan finally said, “I’m certainly not opposed to keeping him alive for a bit longer and finding out more about him.” Hopefully, this would give the character a proper ending to satisfy fans of the franchise, both old and new.
The Walking Deadhas always been known for having iconic scenes and characters, but Negan’s introduction stunned viewers when he appeared in the season 6 finale, which told fans that one main character was going to die. Ever since then, fans have feared Negan every time his name was mentioned and anytime he was seen on screen. The closest thing fans have to a new character like this isHomelander from Amazon’sThe Boys.Both villains invoke fear even when they’re not on screen because fans have no idea when they’ll show up.
The creative team behind theWalking Deadfranchise still has its hands full with the impending Rick Grimes spin-off movie that was teased a while back. If they can tie in both characters somehow, then they may have a chance at doing something unique with the story that the comics haven’t done.
