The title forThe Matrix 4may have already been leaked online. A few days ago,Reddit useru/vesuveusmxoshared a story on r/matrix about how an Instagram user named “love_lana_wachowski” shared a now-deleted post by a makeup artist who is credited with working on the fourthMatrixfilm.
In the originalInstagram post, the makeup artist was seen showing off a Matrix themed coat, seemingly gifted to her by director Lana Wachowski and producer James McTeigue for her work on the film. However, this gift also contained a thoughtful card, which thanked the artist for her work “in the making ofMatrix Resurrections”. Although the Instagram post has now been deleted,u/vesuveusmxoalso shared a video from a Matrix-themed YouTube channel calledNeoMatrixology, which details the origin Instagram post.

This is by no means a confirmation of the actual title forThe Matrix 4. If this does end up being the title, it certainly fits with the franchises naming scheme. The previous two sequels were titledThe Matrix Reloaded, andThe Matrix Revolutions,respectively.Resurrections,considering some characters appear to be returning from the grave, feels like an appropriate title. Both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are cast in the film and have been spotted filming on location. In the original three films, Reeves played the protagonist and chosen one, Neo, while Moss played his love interest, everyone’s favoritemotorcycle riding, leather-bound badass, Trinity.
In the third film,Revolutions, Trinity was seemingly killed after being impaled when she and Neo crashed their ship while infiltrating the Machine City. Neo’s fate, on the other hand, is a little uncertain. After a sprawling,dragon ball z stylefight with infamous antagonistAgent Smith (Hugo Weaving),Neo succumbs to Smith’s trademark assimilation. However, in doing so, he managed to destroy Smith and all his “copies”. Neo appears to have sacrificed himself to save humanity and he’s last seen having his lifeless body carried off by the machines.
How these two characters will return remains uncertain.Has Neo been resurrected? Was he everreallydead to begin with? How is Trinity back? Is this really her or some kind of program designed to mimic her?
Hopefully, all questions, and titles, will be revealed by the end of this year. The untitled fourthMatrixfilm, directed by Lana Wachowski, is currently slated for release on December 23rd, 2021
