Due to the ongoingCOVID-19 pandemic, there has never been a time where so many different types of people were gaming. However, there are many players who struggle with the overall accessibility of the very games they love to play. With this in mind, the team behindThe Last of Us Part IIhave been hard at work to ensure that their game is as accessible as possible.

Emilia Schatz is the lead gameplay designer at Naughty Dog, the studio behindThe Last of Us Part II.During her time working onUncharted 4: A Thief’s End, she said that the team had “a very simple plan” in regards to the game’s accessibility features. Some of these features included various camera assists, features that helped with aiming, and an option that allowed for players to switch quick-time-events (QTE) to a button hold rather than a button tap.

However, withThe Last of Us Part II,Naughty Dog is attempting to go fartherwith its variety of accessibility options. Players can expect to find up to 60 options available to them to tweak and change to fit their individual needs. While there are several options that have become more commonplace, like subtitles and UI sizing, Naughty Dog has been hard at work adding in more granular options like using the touch pad to zoom in, or having fully remappable controls.

Naughty Dog didn’t just stop there, though. Accessibility options forgamers with vision problemshave been sparse in the gaming world for a long time. WithThe Last of Us Part II, players will have access to a multitude of vision aids including a high-contrast mode. This mode will allow for low-vision players to see their character and allies in a blue color, enemies in red, and everything else in a light tone of grey.

The addition of this plethora of features is sure to assist players in their enjoyment of the post-apocalyptic story in whatever way needed. Now players will be able to spend less time worrying about if they can physically play, and more time on thatClicker waiting for themaround the corner.
