Back in 2020, Ubisoft kickstarted a brand-new IP with the action-adventure titleImmortals Fenyx Rising. Originally titledGods and Monsters,Immortals Fenyx Risingwas unlike anything that Ubisoft had created before. Based on the trailers, many gamers felt like it was aLegend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildclone with the budget of a Ubisoft game. When players got their hands on the title, it was in fact very similar toBreath of the Wild, but it was also unique enough to garner a bit of a fanbase. While there has not been any indication that a sequel is planned, the game desperately deserves one.
Immortals: Fenyx Risingbrought playerson a fun and colorful adventure through Greek mythology. It was inspired by a software bug that came up during the production ofAssassin’s Creed Odysseyand quickly grew into a full game idea. The DLC continued the adventures through Greek mythology, and it also brought players on a separate adventure through Chinese mythology. As Ubisoft looks to deliver even more video games for fans to enjoy, it should really consider taking another stab at theImmortals: Fenyx Risinggameplay. However, instead of continuing the Greek mythology adventure, it should go after the Egyptian mythology and deliver an equally fun title.

The Story of Fenyx Rising
Immortals: Fenyx Risingbrought players to the Golden Isle, an island filled with Greek mythology. The giant Typhon escaped his prison under a mountain and took revenge on the Olympian gods. He severed them from their godly essences and stole their powers. Zeus ended up fleeing Typhon’s onslaught and met up with Prometheus to aid in the defeat of the giant. Prometheus bet Zeus that if Typhon could be defeated by a mortal then Zeus would have to free him from his own imprisonment, and Zeus agreed.
Players are thenput in control of Fenyx, a Greek shield-bearer who washes up on the island after being shipwrecked. Fenyx is fully customizable by the player and is the main focus of the title. They discover that the rest of the crew and the residents of the island had all been turned to stone. They quickly gather weapons and run into Hermes who tells them all about the dangers facing the Golden Isle. What follows is a hilarious adventure through Greek mythology as players must reunite the gods with their essences and stop Typhon from destroying humanity.

Fenyx must travel across the Golden Isleto assist the gods with their plight. They will meet Aphrodite, Ares, Hephaestus, and Athena who are all struggling with the loss of their essence in very wild ways. The player will also have to defeat the spirits of Achilles, Atalanta, Herakles, and Odysseus if they want to make the island a safer place. Throughout all of this, Zeus and Prometheus serve as bickering narrators who are constantly fighting about where the story is going.
Egyptian Mythology is A Perfect Fit
Immortals: Fenyx Risingwas inspired byUbisoft’s work onAssassin’s Creed Odysseyand as such was heavily focused on Greek mythology. Ubisoft has also done heavy research into Ancient Egypt and its mythology throughAssassin’s Creed: Origins. While it may choose to continue the Greek mythology story, or even go down a Norse mythology story due to the popularity ofAssassin’s Creed: Valhalla, it should strongly consider crafting one around Egyptian mythology.
Bringing players toan island inspired by Egyptian mythologycould be a lot of fun. Having players interact with gods like Osiris, Horus, Re, Anubis, or even Bastest and Taweret could lead to many funny interactions. Each of the gods is inspired by different animals which would lead to a unique looking title as everyone is anamorphic animals. It would help set itself apart from the previous entry and showcase a mythology that does not get as much attention.
Currently,Marvel’sMoon Knighthas put Egyptian Mythologyinto pop culture and Ubisoft should capitalize on that with the nextImmortals Fenyx Risingtitle. It has already done a lot of research for the creation ofAssassin’s Creed: Originsand has shown that it can adapt more than just Greek mythology with the Chinese mythology DLC pack. Letting players go through a world inspired by Egyptian Mythology just makes sense, and is the perfect route to take the series.
Immortals: Fenyx Risingis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
