Despite Min Min only recently being released as the first DLC fighter forUltimate’s second fighter pass, fans are already speculating who will come after. In fact, some fans are wondering ifUltimate’s website is hinting at another announcementalready. Of course, that’s only speculation, given that Min Min’s announcement was so recent and the gap between fighters has been consistently wide.
Similarly, the gap between DLC amiibo has also been incredibly wide. In fact, theJoker and Hero amiibo release dateswere only just revealed, and those two characters were additions toUltimate’s original fighter pass. The game’s creator Masahiro Sakurai has spoken about the struggles involved with developing fighters for the second DLC pass from home fairly recently; now, Sakurai seemed to confirm that the second fighter pass will be the last DLC forUltimate.
In Sakurai’s weekly Famitsu column which was translated by PushDustin and Robert Sephazon on Twitter, Sakurai speaks about the development process for Min Min. Importantly, however, Sakurai goes on to say, “There are only 5 more DLC fighters! After they have been released, the continuousSmashdevelopment fromSmash for 3DS/Wii Uwill finally come to an end.” For those unaware, development forUltimatebegan immediately after all the content forWii Uwas released. This statement essentially confirms an earlier comment Sakurai made regarding the team havingno plans for a third fighter pass forUltimate.
Some fans may feel some disappointment following this news, however, the content thatSmash Bros. Ultimatehas delivered since its release has been beyond impressive. The game’s roster when all is said and done will easily eclipse nearly every major fighting game’s roster, which is no easy feat to accomplish. Even after the fighter pass is complete, it’s still possible thatUltimatewill receive new updated content like therecentOctopath Travelerspirit event.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis available now for the Nintendo Switch.
