The news came at a busy time for the Xbox brand. At the end of July, the Xbox 360 storefront will be shut down after nearly two decades of service. While some Xbox 360 titles can still be played via backward compatibility on consoles such as Xbox One, Microsoft is offering multiple Xbox 360 titles at deep discounts as part of the storefront’s final sendoff. In addition, Microsoft released a new Xbox bundle for Amazon’s Prime Days thatdid not include a console. Instead, the company collaborated with Amazon’s FireTV service to bring Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to households. The bundle retailed for $78.90 at the time of writing and included a FireTV Stick, an Xbox Wireless Controller, and one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Thanks to Xbox Game Pass, gamers can enjoy several of Microsoft’s best-selling franchises at no added cost, including some from companies that have been acquired by Microsoft over the years. According to a post by Klobrille on social media, the most popular Xbox game by player count is theOverwatchfranchise, with over 100 million players across all platforms that it is available on. Though the originalOverwatchis unplayable,Overwatch 2continues to receive updatesand new heroes for players to try out. In second place, bothForza Horizon 5andSea of Thievesclaimed 40 million players each.Minecraft DungeonsandThe Elder Scrolls Onlinewere not far apart from each other, with respective counts of 25 and 24 million. By comparison,Halo InfiniteandStarfieldhad player totals of 20 and 14 million each.

In the replies to their post, Klobrille clarified that the player count data accounted for total lifetime player numbers, and also included Xbox Game Pass users, which added to the count for some titles. However, Klobrille stated that some games such asForza Motorsport,Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, andtheCall of Dutyfranchisewere absent from their ranking due to numbers not being shared by Xbox.

While it is unclear how muchXbox Game Pass subscriptionsweigh into the player count, it also demonstrates the variety that the service has to offer. Only time will tell if other Xbox games can crack the list in future updates.
