TheStarfieldrelease date is officially June 28, 2025. Bethesda first announcedStarfieldback in 2018, so fans have been waiting quite a long time to play the company’s ambitious open world sci-fi RPG. It was originally pegged for a late 2022 release before getting pushed back to the first half of 2023, but nowStarfield’s release date has been delayed yet again.Last year, Microsoft and Bethesda hosted a special event where they gave fans a deep dive intoStarfieldgameplay. Rumors have been swirling thatStarfieldwasn’t going to meet this release window, and now those rumors have been verified.RELATED:Starfield Fan Shares Massive 400-Page Document Dedicated to the Bethesda RPGWith theStarfieldrelease date now set for September 6 instead of the first half of 2023, some fans may be wondering why the game was delayed. Unfortunately, no specific reason forStarfield’s latest release date delayhas been announced at the time of this writing, but fans can assume that it involves polishing the game and making sure it lives up to expectations. The added few months of development time could go a long way in ensuringStarfieldlaunches in a much stronger state than it would have otherwise.
When is the Starfield Release Date?
While some fans may be disappointed that they will have to wait longer than expected to playStarfield, the good news is that they know when they can expect the next deep dive on the game. In the same video where theStarfieldrelease date was announced, Bethesda’s Todd Howard also confirmed the date for a special Starfield Direct presentation. Those looking forward toStarfieldcan tune in on June 11 to see moreStarfieldgameplay videosand learn about what exactly the game has to offer.
It’s possible this will line up with Xbox’s general presentation that it plans on hosting around E3 this year. WhileXbox is expected to skip E3, it’s expected to host an E3-equivalent presentation where it will highlight various games that are in development for Xbox consoles.Starfieldis easily one of the biggest Xbox games on the horizon, so perhaps it will have a presence at both this Starfield Direct event and whatever Xbox’s E3-equivalent winds up being.
All things considered,Starfield’s release date delay is likely for the best. If it were to stick to its first half of 2023 plans, it would have found itself competing with the likes ofDiablo 4,Street Fighter 6, andFinal Fantasy 16, all of which are launching in June. And if it were to launch in May, it would have potentially stolen attention away from fellow Bethesda-published gameRedfall. The September release date should giveStarfielda lot more room to breathe, and now it’s just a question of whetherBethesda’s open world sci-fi gamecan live up to the hype.
