Helium-3 (He-3) is a gas resource inStarfieldthat serves various purposes, including weapon upgrades, starship fuel, and research advancements. While He-3 is a commonly found gas, its extraction can be a bit challenging since it cannot be obtained using Cutters. This guide aims to provide a solution for acquiring Helium inStarfieldwithout facing any adverse effects like lung damage, ensuring a smooth and safe process.
How to Get Helium
Starfieldplayers can harvest Helium through three methods. They will either need to collect He-3 directly from a vein, use an extractor to mine it automatically, or buy it as prefabricated packs from merchants.
Collect He-3 From Active Veins
The easiest way to get Helium is by interacting with gas vents. Onsome planets, players will find active He-3 exhausts that areemitting a green-yellow vapor.By getting closer to these vents and pressing the interact button (A on Xbox, X on PlayStation), players can extract Helium.
Note that He-3 is a toxic gas, and being exposed to it for longer periods willcause lung damage. Players are advised to wear toxin-resistant spacesuits before opting to harvest Helium vents.
Place a He-3 Extractor Over a Deposit
For the most effective harvest,build an He-3 extractor. First, locate a planet with Helium resources. Next,build an Outposton it. Finally, open the build menu and select “Helium Extractor” to mine this gas.
Note that an extractor won’t function unless it’s connected to a power generator. Also, it’s best tolink the He-3 Extractor to a Gas Storageto maximize its production.
If the scanner doesn’t show the He-3 mine locations, press X to bring out the Outpost Beacon. Once the Beacon is ready, all extractable minerals and gases will be shown in the top left corner of the screen.

Allthe mercantiles in major citiessell Helium. To buy some, head over tothe Resources sectionin their inventory and pay four Credits per pack.
Best Planets to Farm Helium
Theideal planets for extractingHe-3 areKurtz and Pontus. The former is a Jemison moon in the Alpha Centauri system, and the latter is the moon of Erebus in the Olympus system. Both planets are accessible early on in the game and require nospecial upgradeto build an Outpost on.
