Of all the systems and mechanics that players will encounter inStarfield, combat will likely be one of the most time-consuming. A great deal of the game will be spent fighting, andStarfieldoffers players a vast array of weapons to do so as they see fit. Like many other games with massive arsenals,Starfieldbreaks up its weapons into categories. TheHeavycategory features weapons that have unrivaled damage potential, but often suffer from weight issues or slow reloading.

Deciding whichHeavyweapons arethe absolute best inStarfieldis difficult, as different players will approach situations with their own unique play style. However, there are a few unique options found in the Settled Systems that rise above the rest, no matter what play style a player uses. This list will explain what those options are, and exactly where players can get them.

5Ashta Tamer

The Ashta Tameris a version of the Bridger grenade launcher. This weapon is outclassed in nearly every way by the Negotiator, which features a bigger clip, and more customization optionsat the Weapons Workbench. However, what gives the Ashta Tamer the right to claim this spot on the list is how early players can find it in the game. There will be very few weapons that can match its destructive power during the first ten XP levels. This weapon features incendiary rounds that will have a chance of causing incendiary damage on enemies.

How to Get the Ashta Tamer in Starfield:

The Ashta Tamercan be found during Sam Coe’s mission to Akila, at a location outside Akila Cirty known as ‘The Empty Nest.’ In fact, the very quest where this weapon can first be found shares the same name with the location. Here, the player will enter a cave that contains an Artifact, but wil have to face the Shaw Gang before reaching it. Just after entering the cave, the player will find a small camp with a path that leads directlybetween a Contraband Cacheon the left, and a Weapons Case on the right. The Ashta Tamer is found in the case on the right.

4Heller’s Cutter

Heller’s Cutteris a version of the eponymous mining tool that players will use throughout the game. In nearly every aspect, Heller’s Cutter is the exact same weapon as any Cutter the player is likely to find. What sets it apart, especially early inStarfield, is itsDisassembler perk, which makes it 20% more powerful against robots. This fact, along with its extreme range, makes it an incredibly useful when trying to take out those pesky turrets. Heller’s Cutter is also the only unique Cutter in the game, which helps in justifying a spot on this list. Also, many players do not realize how strong Cutter’s are against armored enemies, especially early in the game.

How to Get Heller’s Cutter in Starfield:

Heller’s Cuttercan be found anytime during or after “Back to Vectera.” Players may remember a certain airlock that could not be entered when first leaving Vectera, as the control panel was completely fried. When returning to Vectera to rescue Barrett, this airlock will now be working, and Heller’s Cutter is found just inside, in first special Cutter case found on the right.

3Negotiator

The Negotiatoris the only base weapon on this list, but it absolutely deserves its place. This grenade launcher has an 8 round clip that can cause extreme damage against even the deadliest foes. When facing a team of low-to-mid-level enemies, the Negotiator can turn the player into a single-person wrecking crew. Another important factor that elevates the Negotiator over its less-powerful sibling the Bridger, as well as other Heavy weapons like the Auto-Rivet, is its list of powerful customization options. With the right mods, the Negotiator can be made to put out well over 200 damage.

Where to Get the Negotiator in Starfield:

Because of its nature as a basic weapon, the Negotiator is the only gun on this list that is not guaranteed to be found at a single location. Instead, players will have to loot or purchase it when it becomes available. While there is nothing inStarfieldthat states this outright, it appears that the Negotiator does not become available in the game until the player reaches level 30. There are some reports of it entering as early as level 25, but this is unverified. As seen in the image above, the Negotiator was found here at UC Distribution, for just under 18,000 credits. With no Commerce skill, players can expect to pay closer to 20,000 credits.

2N67 Smartgun

The N67 Smartgunis a version ofStarfield’s Microgun, and is an absolute beast during combat. While all Microguns are formidable, the N67 features the Shattering perk that allows it to melt through armor like a hot knife through butter. This makes the N67 a viable choice for evenStarfield’s most dangerous enemies, including the Hunter, the Emissary, and everyone leading up to them. Another important factor that makes this weapon so special, is its use of 7.77mm ammo, which is one of the most common ammo types found in the game. This means that, if players pay attention, they can constantly be picking up ammo for this gun, even when not using it.

Where to Get the N67 Smartgun in Starfield:

The N67 Smartgun can only be found at the UC Distribution center in New Atlantis. It is a short walk from the Commercial District NAT station, and can be purchased for approximately 40,000 credits, depending on whether players have the Commerce skill active, and which level they are at with it.

1Poisonstorm

Poisonstormis a version of the Magstorm, what is essentially a high-tech mini-gun. There will be players that will debate whether Poisonstorm is truly better than the N67 Smartgun, but in the making of this list, it seems undeniable. This weapon comes with both Uranium-Depleted and High-Velocity rounds, making it incredibly powerful at a considerable range. The Poison perk, which randomly deals poison damage and slows enemies, will affect practically every enemy this weapon touches due to its insanely high rate of fire. Simply put, there is no Heavy weapon inStarfieldmore powerful than Poisonstorm.

How to Get Poisonstorm in Starfield:

Poisonstorm is available forpurchase at Kore Kinetics in Neon. This weapon merchant is found on the second floor of the Trade Tower, which is located at the end of Neon’s core. If players see Ryujin Industries, they are at the wrong end. The elevator for the Trade Tower is found in the lobby, and will take players up to the second floor. Poisonstorm will cost players approximately 40,000 credits, depending on their level with the Commerce skill.

Starfieldis available now on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
