Eric Barone’sStardew Valleyis an indie darling that has retained a large following in-part thanks to consistent updates. In fact, the creator recently teasednew content coming inStardew Valley’s 1.5 updatelike usable benches and swimming ducks. But that doesn’t mean players are not interested in adding their own spin on the farming/life simulator.
AStardew Valleyfan named FastestBoi created the “Legendary Movies” mod that addsJoker(2019) andThe Godfather(1972) as options in Pelican Town’s movie theater — a late-game area that can be unlocked after completing the Community Center. The theater has a number of movies based on different genres, from animated family comedies to documentaries, but it’s hard to say any of them would stack up to Francis Ford Coppola’s classic American film.

to use FastestBoi’s mod, players will need to download a “Custom Movies” mod created by Platonymous first. There are plans to potentially add films likeThe Godfather 2,Star Wars, andFinding Nemoduring different in-game seasons, though FastestBoi said they will remove the mod if it turns out to be violating any copyright laws, despite them not claiming ownership or making any money.
A mod adding movies to watch inStardew Valleyfeels particularly well timed given the circumstances around theater re-openings due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. While some have begun to re-open and show films like Christopher Nolan’sTenet, and the state ofNew Jersey even let people go to the movies for Labor Dayat a limited capacity, much of the United States in particular is still locked down to protect people’s health.
This is the second mod FastestBoi has created forStardew Valley, following up an “Additional Weapons” set uploaded to Nexus Mods in August that adds melee weapons like baseball bats and different swords fromTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Modding communities for various games have a long history of creating new tools and mechanics for players to use, such as amod giving Geralt of Rivia guns inThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
That players are dedicated enough to create mods adding things like movies to see inStardew Valleyis just one indication of its continual success. Earlier this year, aphysical collector’s edition ofStardew Valleyfor Switchwas released by Fangamer, which included extra goodies like a comic book and wooden standee.
