Star Wars Jedi: Survivoralready looks like it’s surpassing its predecessor in some pretty big ways, and that’s just based on the trailers and behind-the-scenes glimpses fans have been given so far. Along with some big gameplay improvements and additions, ranging from new lightsaber stances to mountable wildlife,Star Wars Jedi: Survivoris also adding a lot more variety to the experience, from its enemy types to its environments, to its story.Jedi: Survivorlooks as though it’ll increase the challenge in a fair but significant way, and its recently revealed Gen’dai boss might be the perfect example of this.

First shown inStar Warsmedia back during the beloved 2003 2DStar Wars: Clone Warsanimated show, the Gen’dai have only appeared a handful of times in the franchise, and this new boss inStar Wars Jedi: Survivormarks the first official appearance of the species in canon. Named Rayvis, this mysterious threat was first seen inStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s last trailer, and thanks to a deep-dive from IGN, fans now know a bit more about this Gen’dai warrior. If he’s anything like the species' last few Legends appearances, he’s going to be one difficult boss fight.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Gen’dai Boss Could Put Up One Tough Fight

While the Gen’dai have cropped up a few times inStar WarsLegends, the most iconic appearance can be found inGenndy Tartakovsky’sStar Wars: Clone Warsshow, during its eighth chapter. In this episode, Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Clone forces go up against a Gen’dai bounty hunter named Durge. While one bounty hunter shouldn’t be a match for a Jedi Master and an entire Clone battalion, the Gen’dai species has a few tricks up its sleeve.

Each Gen’dai is made up of hundreds of tentacles, wrapping around one another to form a humanoid-like appearance. These tentacles regenerate at an alarmingly fast rate, allowing the Gen’dai to regrow severed limbs in a heartbeat. Obi-Wan soon discovers how tricky it is to kill a Gen’dai during his battle with Durge, as the bounty hunter simply refused to die, despite being cut in half. Obi-Wan eventually defeats Durge by blowing him apart with the Force from the inside, but the tenacious, semi-immortal bounty hunter somehow survives, and is only truly killed whenAnakin Skywalker throws him into a star.

If Durge is anything to go by, then the fight withStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Gen’dai could be one of the toughest – not only in this game, but in anyStar Warsgame ever made. WhileStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderfeatured a few tough boss fights, they could all be potentially overshadowed by this fight with a Gen’dai, a being capable of regrowing limbs, morphing into other shapes, and surviving extreme conditions. It’s highly likely that Cal Kestis will need to use all of his newfound Jedi abilities to defeat this Gen’dai warrior once and for all, and it’ll likely be after a good few unsuccessful attempts.

IGN’s interview withStar Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Lead Writer Danny Homan and Cinematic Director Dori Arazished some more light on this Gen’dai warrior and his species. Rayvis, much like the rest of his species, was displaced after the destruction of his peaceful homeworld a few hundred years ago. Since then, Rayvis has traveled across the entire galaxy, and has finally found his calling as a bounty hunter. Rayvis has lived for over 1,000 years, and has seen the rise of Republic, its demise, and the rise of the Empire. In that time, the only thing that hasn’t changed is his own strict code. While Rayvis is a bounty hunter, he’s one with a code that keeps him connected to his ancestors, and in his eyes, it’s quite noble, making him an even stronger foe.
