Fans have already seen plenty ofSpider-Man: Miles Morales,with themost recent PlayStation 5 showcaseproviding a glimpse at what they can expect from its gameplay and story. However, nothing had been shown of theSpider-Manremaster that’s coming bundled with the PS5 version’s Ultimate Edition.
Today, fans finally got to see both gameplay and a cutscene of the remaster, displaying all its graphical upgrades. The cutscene reveals a striking change: Peter Parker has a completely different face.

For the remaster, Insomniac has decided to recast Peter’s face model, changing it from the originalSpider-Mangame’s John Bubniak to Ben Jordan. Voice actor Yuri Lowenthal hasn’t been recast, but Insomniac explains that it chose to change Peter’s face so it would better match Lowenthal’s voice performance and facial capture.
A glance at the top comments on Twitter shows the response from fans appears to be mostly negative, with complaints ranging from it being unnecessary to thinking he looks too similar to Tom Holland, the actor who portrays Spider-Man in the modern MCU movies. This complaint brings to the mind the criticismsSquare Enix’sAvengersgamereceived for having its characters look oddly similar to their movie counterparts.
Others also believe that the younger look contradicts slightly with the game’s backstory for Peter, who’s meant to be out of high school and in his mid-20s. One fan points out that he looks younger than Miles, who he acts as a mentor towards due to him supposed to be being an older and more experienced Spider-Man.
Unlike most other cross-gen releases, theSpider-Manremaster will not be offered as a free upgrade to anyone who purchased the game originally on PlayStation 4, meaning players also can’t transfer their progress over and will have to start fresh, andthere are also no plans to release it as a separate purchase either.
Spider-Man: Miles Moraleswill allow PS4 owners to both upgrade to the PS5 version for free and carry over their saves, and it has also been recently confirmed that the skins obtained for pre-ordering the game can be unlocked in-game as well.
Saidpre-orders are live now for both PS4 and PS5, and doing so will earn players the aforementioned extra skins and early access to a new gadget for Miles to use called the Gravity Well.
TheSpider-Manremaster will release as part of theSpider-Man: Miles MoralesUltimate Edition for PlayStation 5 on November 12th.
