Following the return of past Spider-Men and villains inSpider-Man: No Way Home, many fans have been speculating whether the upcoming animated sequel,Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Part One), will tie into the MCU multiverse. Now, the writers of the long-awaited film have weighed in on the possible connection.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versewill continue the cinematic story of Miles Morales, which began withInto the Spider-Verse. While that first film focused on several versions of Spider-Man from different universes, Marvel Studios’No Way Homefollowed in its footsteps with a live-action version of the multiverse, though Sony’s animated world and the MCU did not have any connection up to this point, but that may soon change.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast,writing/producing duo Chris Millerand Phil Lord opened up aboutSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verseand its possible ties to the MCU. When asked if the film could tie intoNo Way Homeas well as future Marvel projects, Miller replied, “The Multiverse is big and wide. And all things grow… Why would you think a Multiverse, in which many things are possible, that [those things are] not related?” Miller then sarcastically added, “Everything’s possible except for this one thing that everyone wants.” Even though it is unclear whether or not those connections are true, there is definitely no ruling out anything, especially after seeing the three live-action Spider-Men interacting on screen together while also taking into consideration the amount of cameos rumored to be in the upcomingDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
If that isn’t enough, the character of Miles Morales has been hinted at already in a couple of Holland’sSpider-Manfilms. The first hint came inSpider-Man: Homecoming, when Donald Glover’s Aaron Davis character is interrogated by Spider-Man in a parking garage, hoping to find the Vulture (Michael Keaton). Davis then reveals he doesn’t want Vulture’s dangerous weapons around into the neighborhood because he has a nephew who lives there, and that nephew is none other than Miles Morales. The nexthint came inSpider-Man: No Way Home, when Garfield’s Spidey and Jamie Foxx’s Electro share a brief heartwarming moment where Garfield tries to remind Electro that he was never a nobody. He looks past it, then adding that he hopes to see a Black Spider-Man somewhere in the multiverse, which of course fans know hints at Miles.
How that possible tie-in between a live-action universe and an animated feature comes to be remains unknown, but with the MCU’s phase four continuing to expand in bold directions and the release ofTheSpider-Versesequelcoming at the end of this year, it’s very likely fans will see some interaction between Morales and Parker.Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Part One), like its title implies, will center on the Miles Morales/Spider-Man (Shameik Moore) on adventure across the multiverse with Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld) as they travel with a new team of Spider-People who are gearing up to face a new threat.
This relationship between Morales and Stacy being developed will eventually set up the Spider-Women spin-off, which will feature Steinfeld’s Spider-Gwen and Issa Rae’s Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman. Oscar Isaac will also voice Spider-Man 2099, an alternate version of Spider-Man from the future. While Lord and Miller are returning to write and produce the film (producing alongside Avi Arad and Amy Pascal), new directors Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson hopped on to helm the sequel.
Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (Part One)is scheduled to release on June 30, 2025, whilePart Twowill swing into theatres sometime in 2023.
