Sony capped off its big PlayStation Showcase event with the first good look atMarvel’s Spider-Man 2gameplay, confirming major new features that will be in the open world superhero game. Insomniac Games hit it out of the park with its firstopen worldSpider-Mangame, and so expectations are understandably high for the sequel.
TheSpider-Man 2reveal trailer confirmed precious little about the new game beyond that it would feature Peter Parker and Miles Morales teaming up together against Venom. The newSpider-Man 2gameplay footage gives fans a lot more to chew on.

The footage begins by setting up theSpider-Man 2story. As theorized, the game will be about Kraven the Hunter making his way to New York. Kraven and his goons are hunting down the Lizard, aka Curt Connors, putting them in direct conflict with Spider-Man. Harry Osborn is on the brink of death, and it seems the only person that can save him is Connors. So even though the Lizard is going on a rampage, Peter Parker and Miles Morales are trying to save him from Kraven.
The gameplay trailer was lengthy, showing a full sequence in the game that began withPeter Parkerfighting Kraven’s goons in the suburbs of Queens. Parker is now rocking the symbiote suit, which gives him access to a new suite of powers that weren’t available in the original game. Peter makes quick work of the hunters, and then the option appears to swap immediately to Miles in Harlem. This confirms the theory thatSpider-Man 2would have aGTA 5-style character swapping mechanic.
The Miles section of gameplay sees him come face to face with the Lizard, and eventually he and Peter regroup and team up. Notably,Miles and Peter both have web wings, something that was hinted at in the recentSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Versetrailer. Ultimately, theSpider-Man 2gameplay trailer ends with the Lizard getting away and Peter in pursuit. Miles notices that Peter appears to have a far more aggressive personality than usual, suggesting that the symbiote suit is already having an adverse effect on his personality.
Unfortunately, an officialSpider-Man 2release datewasn’t provided by the gameplay reveal trailer, but PlayStation fans were assured that it will launch at some point this fall. If the full game can live up to the incredible footage seen in the trailer, then it seems safe to say thatSpider-Man 2is definitely going to be a Game of the Year contender.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2launches this fall, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
