For many players,Skyrimis a chance to unleash god-like powers using everything at their disposal, and one player has been able to create their own ring with stats that border on the impossible. Bethesda’s 2011 RPG is so popular that it’s easy to forget that it’s actually asequel to a previousElder Scrollstitle. Having dominated the AAA sphere for over a decade now, the game’s status remains legendary, and that’s largely because there’s so much to do.

While some prefer to be a warrior, others will favor a more stealthy character, picking pockets and sneaking away into the night. However,Skyrimalso gives players the chance to become a powerful magethrough a number of schools of magic. The ability to conjure a familiar, destroy foes with lightning from the fingertips, or create enchanted weapons that do unbelievable amounts of damage is alluring to many. It’s even possible to take things to the extreme.

In a recent post on Reddit, user Kitsmeralda posted a screenshot from their son’sSkyrimplaythrough, which shows the stats of a very particular ring. It immediately becomes apparent that this is a very powerful item indeed, with its ability to regenerate Magicka,The Elder Scrolls’equivalent of mana, 1,187,512,320% faster, which is just ridiculous. However, it’s been noted in the comments that it also appears to reduce carrying capacity by -1,864,499,200. For anyone curious, user Sir_FrancisHaddock explains that this is just an “integer overflow,” which has confusedSkyrim’s programming with a number higher than it can handle. Looking closely at the bottom of the screenshot reveals that the player’s carrying capacity has indeed increased by a huge amount, despite the ring displaying a negative value.

This is just one reason why the game is still going strong after all these years. Players have found ways to make someincredibly powerful items inSkyrimthrough the use of exploits. According to several users in Kitsmeralda’s thread, such examples as the above ring are the result of using a “restoration loop,” which makes it possible to create items with outrageous stats. As summarized by another user: “Use alchemy to get better at enchanting, use enchanting to get better at alchemy. Repeat.”

The idea ofexploitingSkyrim’s programming and mechanicsis nothing new. Fans have been doing it pretty much since day one. While some would see the many glitches the game contains as a problem, there are evidently many people in the community who enjoy using them to their advantage, which seems to just add to the game’s charm.

Skyrimis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
