Skyrimis a game that comes with vast opportunities for players. From being able to lead completely different lives depending on the style of a playthrough, from outlaw to law-abiding citizen or from thief to noble mage, there are a lot of different ways to change character throughout varying runs ofSkyrim.
However, one of the other major factors depends on how the player chooses to place their time in terms of skill building. Playerscan focus on overpowered buildssuch as the sneak archer, or they can choose to become a mage and learn different schools of magic. One of the most popular magical choices is the school of Destruction, filled with great options for causing chaos across Tamriel. And one of these modes of chaos is with fire.

9Fire Rune
While it is one of the trickier spells to use frequently inSkyrim, Fire Rune is an Apprentice-level spell that can be extremely helpful in certain places. Fire Rune spells can be cast onto an area of ground, and when any character, including the Dragonborn, walks onto the area, they will be hit with a blast of fire that deals fifty damage.

While Fire Rune isn’t an effective method for winning battles against most enemies, it is a great way to surprise them and kick off a battle with a significant hit of damage to the enemy. Unfortunately, Fire Runes aren’t useful for much else, and can only be used effectively in enclosed spaces.
8Firebolt
An Apprentice-level spell, Firebolt is a solid Destruction magic attack that fires a single bolt of fire magic that takes away 37 health points from the target. Additionally, the damage achieved from Firebolt can be multiplied if the target is already on fire. This means that Firebolt spells will do more damage alongside other fire magic, including some great fire enchantments.
The only problem that players will frequently run into over the use of Firebolt is that it has a high Magicka cost per attack, and doesn’t do enough damage to take out most enemies in a single blow. This means that killing enemies by using Firebolt as one’s primary will usually disappoint and leave players short on Magicka.

7Flame Cloak
Flame Cloak is am Adept-level spell that can be used to great effect. After being cast, the cloak will last for sixty seconds. During that time, it will cause eight points of fire damage per second to any enemies within melee range. Flame Cloak is a great spell to cast while going into a big fight because it offers additional damage over a long period, for a low cost.
However, Flame Cloak is especially useful in combination with other fire spells, such as Firebolt, which do more damage when the targets are already on fire. In enclosed areas with a number of enemies that focus on melee combat, Flame Cloak is a great spell to use.

6Fireball
Another Adept-level spell, Fireball works like t Firebolt, but with several key differences. Firstly, it deals higher damage. Secondly, the Fireball explodes on impact and does damage in an extended area of about four meters.

This spell can be hugely useful as a primary spell in battle, especially since it does more damage to targets who are already on fire. Combining Fireball with Flame Cloak or Ignite can make for a devastating combination for a low level of Magicka.
5Ignite
An excellent, if unusual, spell inSkyrimis Ignite. This spell shoots flames at enemies and absolutely melts opponents, particularly if they are already on fire. In this case, a huge damage boost is provided, which makes for one of the best combinations magic users can put into effect regularly.
Ignite, lasting fifteen seconds, provides the Dragonborn with plenty of time to deal more damage with other spells. Players looking to raise their Destruction level quickly inSkyrimwill want to pair Ignite with something like Flame Cloak.

4Incinerate
This Expert-level spell can be very useful, but is often forgotten in favor of Fire Storm. Incinerate creates a huge explosion that deals 90 damage to anybody close to the caster. Players can make a wave of total destruction with this spell.
However, Incinerate, while considered a good choice, is not often used because the Magicka cost compared to the damage isn’t nearly as impressive as Fire Storm, which most players will learn not too long after reaching the Expert level and unlocking Incinerate. However,if players have maximized their Magicka, this can be a great spell.

3Flames
The most basic novice spell in the arsenal, and one that everySkyrimplayer starts with, Flames allows players to deal 12 points of damage per second against enemy targets. Not only is this a great spell to use early in the game to fight enemies, but it is a great way to learn Destruction magic quickly. Also, not using spells like thisis a common mage-build mistake.
Not to mention that while dual-casting, Flames maintains a solid rate of damage even into the later stages ofSkyrim, allowing players to use this Novice-level spell for a long time. With enchanted gear and the right perks, players can make Flames last long enough that, paired with a spell like Ignite, they may never need to use another.

2Wall Of Flames
The Wall of Flames spell is an intense one, and is another great idea in enclosed spaces when players have several opponents to tackle at once. This wall can be put up and will stay for a long time, dealing fifty points of fire damage to any character that touches the wall.
If a group of enemies has been alerted and is determined to make their way to the player, they will likely be in a small space. Players can force enemies to come through the wall and suffer a huge amount of damage, easily clearing out entire hordes of draugr in dungeons or groups of bandits in a cave. It’s the spell equivalent of some ofthe most overpowered weapons in the game.

1Fire Storm
The Master-level fire magic spell requires players to complete the Destruction Ritual Spell Quest in the College of Winterhold. Fire Storm allows players to rain down absolute destruction on their enemies. A higher-level version of Incinerate, Fire Storm can hit anybody within a high range for at least 150 points of health, making itone of the best spells in the game.
This level of Destruction provides the best way to deal AOE damage in all ofSkyrim, making it a wonderful choice for players who love fire magic. Going as far as achieving the Master level in Destruction magic is worth it to wreak as much havoc with fire as possible.
