As seen below,Skull and Bonesgameplay obviously focuses on naval combat, with game director Ryan Barnard also telling Game Rant that there is no land combat in the game. Players will be able to explore and go on treasure hunts, but combat is at the fore. Players begin as a shipwreck survivor, crafting a dhow to survive and using a spear on it to fight off crocodiles and hippos. This will quickly upgrade to Pirate Hunters, faction ships, forts, and more, as players must use a progression system known as Infamy to become the kingpin of the Indian Ocean.
Barnard also added that there are three categories of ships – Cargo ships, which have better storage; Navigation ships, which are faster and more maneuverable; and Firepower ships, which are better in combat at the expense of the other two categories. In total, there are 12Skull and Bonesships players can craft of various sizes and designs, with players able to craft up to 40 copies of those ships, per Barnard, in case players lose a ship inSkull and Bones' PvPor elsewhere.
It should be noted that Ubisoft is billingSkull and Bonesas a live-service titlewith a focus on multiplayer, with there being PvP servers for players who want to do battle. However, it can be completed entirely solo. It should be noted thatSkull and Bonesis not a narrative game with a big overarching story, but for those curious about the pirate world, there will be smaller stories told through the factions and sea-farers players deal with on the Open Sea.
Skull and Bonesreleases November 8 for PC, PS5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X/S.
