Konami has largely moved away from AAA game production, and as a result, its biggest franchises have been mostly dormant for years. This includes the popular survival-horror franchiseSilent Hill, which hasn’t had a proper new entry since 2012, discounting the playable teaser forSilent Hillsthat released in 2014 and has since been pulled from the PlayStation Store. However, it seems thatSilent Hillfans will soon have a lot to be excited about, as reports indicate that a multipleSilent Hillprojects are in active development.

According to reports by VGC and insiders Jeff Grubb and NateTheHate, Konami has multipleSilent Hillprojects in development. This apparently includes a full-blownSilent Hill 2remake with reworked puzzles, endings, and more that’s said to bein development by Bloober Team, the studio known for its work on theLayers of Feargames as well asThe Medium, the latter of which was heavily inspired bySilent Hill. According to the reports, theSilent Hill 2remake may be a timed-PlayStation exclusive, which matches with previous rumors that aSilent HillPS5 exclusive game is in the works.

It’s been previously rumored that there aremultipleSilent Hillgames in development, and the report by VGC lends more credibility to those claims. According to VGC’s sources, an episodic take onSilent Hillis also in development, though it’s unclear who exactly is working on the project. Apparently,Dark Picturesstudio Supermassive Games was potentially working on it at one point, but the latest news is that Annapurna Interactive may be involved. Alternatively, it could be a different studio entirely. It sounds like this project would be something in the vein of narrative-driven, episodic adventure games alaThe Dark Picturesor Telltale’s various titles, so it will be interesting to see what comes of it. The VGC report also mentions that, according to its sources, a brand-new entry in theSilent Hillfranchise is in development at a Japanese studio, though details remain scarce on that front.

All of this comes afterSilent Hillimages leaked online. They were pulled via DMCA, suggesting that the images are legitimate and representative of a futureSilent Hillproject. VGC believes that these images aren’t from one of the aforementionedSilent Hillgames, but rather a new “PT-style teaser game” that will be released for free. Of course, fans should take this information with a grain of salt for now and wait for an official confirmation before getting too excited. But with VGC and multiple insiders reporting on it, it does seem like a relatively safe bet that moreSilent Hillis finally on the way.

The only question that remains is when exactly fans will get to see these games for themselves. The VGC report concludes by claiming that Konami planned on unveiling these projects at E3 2021, something also mentioned by Jeff Grubb, and so it stands to reason that the big reveal is just a matter of time.E3 2022 is canceled, but there are still big summer gaming events to look forward to whereSilent Hillcould make an appearance, like Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest. Keighley has thrown shade at Konami in the past over the company’s treatment of Hideo Kojima, though, so it’s unclear if those bridges could be mended for Summer Game Fest.
