Earlier this month, several games were revealed by Nintendo during its Direct. Many of these were localizations and remakes of certain cult classic JRPGs, likeLive-A-LiveandChrono Cross. There were also a few new games announced during this event, with the one that took many by surprise beingFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. ThisNintendo Warriors spin-offtakes place within an alternate timeline ofFire Emblem: Three Houses, where the house leaders Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude embark on a new adventure.

Much like other titles in the series, this iteration will take thecast ofFire Emblem: Three Housesand place them in a hack-and-slash adventure where they are pitted against waves and waves of enemies. Each character has a distinct fighting style that aims to make them all feel unique thanks to the weapons they wield. For example, Edelgard specializes in axe weapons while Claude uses a bow. While this game may not be the strategy RPG that fans expected, an industry insider claims that a more traditionalFire Emblemgame will also be released this year.

This claim is made by Emily Rogers, who has had a track record of accurate Nintendo news. She had posted to Famiboards believing that a secondFire Emblemgame is in the works at Intelligent Systems, mentioning that it is nearly finished in development. She also notes that this game has been in development for the past 3 years or even more. Rogers also states that Intelligent Systems had received assistance from a smaller studio as well.

Rogers posits that this could be repeating a similar release strategy back in 2017, where twoFire Emblemgames were also released. That includes the multi-platform release of the originalFire Emblem Warriors, along withFire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, a 3DS remake of the secondFire Emblemgame. She notes that with Nintendo’s Fall 2022 lineup being stacked with plenty of high-profile games, it’s possible that thisFire Emblemgame could be moved to next year too.

Rogers concludes her post by noting that even with Nintendo’s stacked Fall lineup with games likeXenoblade Chronicles 3andBayonetta 3, she believes that the latter game wouldn’t be enough to produce enough sales for the Switch. She then posits that pairing this rumored newFire Emblemgame along withBayonetta 3will be a smart decision to maximize sales. This of course is speculation at this time, so this should be taken with a grain of salt until more is revealed.
