Summary
Horror fans have long debated theultimate final girl: Sidney Prescott or Laurie Strode. Thanks to Neve Campbell and Jamie Lee Curtis,ScreamandHalloweenare two of the most successful, profitable, and popular franchises in the genre. The strong, well-crafted, and memorable characters spend years fighting Ghostface and Michael Myers while working out how to live their lives. No matter how many other characters come and go in each franchise, no one compares to these final girls.
WithScream 7’s release date TBD, fans are getting ready to see Sidney Prescott on the big screen again. When comparing the last fewScreammovies to David Gordon Green’sHalloweentrilogy,Scream 7needs to avoid some mistakes that were made with Laurie Strode.

Scream 7 Shouldn’t Sideline Neve Campbell Like Halloween Kills Did To Jamie Lee Curtis
Screamfans were excited for Neve Campbell’s returnsince she is the ultimate final girl, and now that she is coming back to the slasher franchise,Sidney Prescott needs to play a major role. The news of her return is a big deal, thanks to the legacy that she has and the fact that she didn’t appear inScream 6. If she isn’t the main character once again, that will be a shame.
While Laurie Strode is front and center in 2018’sHalloween, thefocus ofHalloween Killsis on the other characterssuch as Tommy Doyle (Anthony Michael Hall), Lindsey Wallace (Kyle Richards), Allyson Nelson (Andi Matichak), and Karen Nelson (Judy Greer). This is thanks to the main plotline of a “mob” going after thefamous villain Michael Myers. With so many new characters added toScream (2022), Sidney is more of a minor character instead of the only one who can beat Ghostface. There’s a risk of this happening again inScream 7, especially if a huge cast is announced.

Sidney also shouldn’t be injured inScream 7,as this was the biggest mistake thatHalloween Killsmade. Laurie lies in a hospital bed for most of the movie, which made audiences wonder why that plot point had to be included. It’s a shame to seeLaurie without much to do inHalloween Kills, and it would be sad if Sidney wasn’t part of the action inScream 7.
What Are The Movies In David Gordon Green’s Halloween Trilogy?
There have always been similarities between Laurie Strode and Sidney Prescott, including their trauma, the fact that they can’t get away from their stalkers, and their physical strength. In order forScream 7to truly be a success,Sidney needs an epic fight scene against Ghostface, andSidney shouldn’t be killed. While injuring Laurie and putting her in a comprised situation was likely intended to create tension and a sense of danger, it just felt frustrating. Fans want to see Sidney in a position of power and strength, especially sinceCampbell didn’t come back forScream 6.
Other Mistakes The Halloween Trilogy Made That Scream 7 Should Avoid
There are a few other mistakes that theHalloweentrilogy made, particularly inHalloween Ends. Some examples includeLaurie Strode writing a corny memoir,Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) becoming evil, andLaurie remaining in Haddonfield, Illinois.
Scream 7won’t repeat the first mistake. Sidney Prescott already wrote a memoir in thememorable movieScream 4, so that won’t happen inScream 7. While the fourth film in the slasher franchise has some cheesy moments, it did a great job of exploring her past trauma in a careful and nuanced way. While it makes sense that Laurie wants to process what happened to her, audiences didn’t need voiceovers while she wrote her book.
What Scream Movies Does Sidney Prescott Appear In?
It also seems unlikely that a main character would be Ghostface inScream 7. Fans wondered about Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) being Ghostface, but now thatScream 7has to address Barrera and Jenna Ortega’s exits, that definitely won’t happen. All thefan theories about the next Ghostfacesuggest that the franchise could do something different and new, which could mean having one Ghostface or a large number.
David Gordon Green’sHalloweentrilogy also features Laurie living in a nice house in Haddonfield and moving forward with her life after surviving Michael Myers' many attacks. SinceSidney already left Woodsboro, California, it seems unlikely that she will be living in her hometown again inScream 7. It doesn’t make sense for Laurie to stay at the scene of the crime, and it wouldn’t be logical for Sidney to think of Woodsboro as a safe place to land and raise her family after everything she experienced.
