If a new leak is to be believed, Sony may be releasing a Pro version of itsPlayStation 5console in November 2024. Last generation saw both Sony and Microsoft release mid-gen upgrades for both of their respective consoles with the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. While it doesn’t seem like an Xbox Series X console upgrade is happening, at least not yet, it seems Sony may be working on an upgrade for thePlayStation 5.
This is far from the first time that rumors have spread about Sony releasing a new PS5 console. It’s long been rumored that aPS5 Slim console is in development, though it has yet to be announced at the time of this writing. While the PS5 Slim console may or may not exist, holdouts may want to wait for Sony to introduce the PlayStation 5 Pro console instead.

According to a report by Key to Gaming, thePS5 Pro consoleis codenamed Trinity and is actively been demoed for developers with development kits being sent out “by late November 2023.” The report states that the PS5 Pro console will have 30 WGP and 18000mts memory with “consistent FPS at 4K resolution” and the ability to display in 8K resolution. Their sources believe that this new PS5 console is currently planned for release in November 2024.
Like with all rumors and leaks, it’s best that fans take this information with a massive grain of salt. While it’s totally possible that Sony is planning to release an upgraded PS5 console in November 2024, it’s also possible that plans will change, and it will ultimately decide against doing so. That being said, Sony has released new versions of its consoles every single generation, and so it would be more surprising if anew PS5didn’t release at some point.
Currently, there are two different PS5 models available to consumers. One is the standard $499.99 PS5 that includes a disc drive, while the other is the $399.99 variant that is exactly the same spec-wise, but lacks a disc drive. There have been reports of anew PS5 model including a detachable disc driveas well, but fans will have to wait and see what happens. Sony has not announced any new PS5 models yet, so those who are itching to get one for big games likeSpider-Man 2or other upcoming PS5 exclusives may want to take the plunge now instead of waiting for the potential redesigns.
