Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis easily one of the most popular online multiplayer games in the world right now, and with the Warzone battle royale mode set to drop any day now, it will likely only grow in popularity. However, Activision has consistently released a newCall of Dutygame every year since 2005, and it has no plans to stop any time soon. AnewCall of Dutyhas already been confirmed for 2020, but as it turns out, it may end up beingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remasteredas opposed to a completely brand new, original project.

This rumor comes from Twitter user Okami, who has accurately leakedCall of Dutyinformation in the past. More specifically, they leaked the existence of theModern WarfareGunfight betabefore it was officially announced, which gives their claims a little more credibility. Now Okami has made some claims about theModern WarfareWarzone mode, but has also said that aCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remasteredgame is coming out this year.

Okami originally made this claim on February 28, but has reiterated it in a tweet with Warzone information. They say that once the Warzone information is confirmed, it will let fans know that Okami is also telling the truth aboutModern Warfare 2 Remasteredcoming out this year. As far as the Warzone information goes, Okami claims that theWarzone release dateis March 10, that a trailer is coming Thursday, March 6 or Monday, March 9, and that it will be a free-to-play, separate client fromModern Warfare. Okami also says that Warzone will be squads only.

So if Okami is telling the truth, then fans will know by Tuesday, March 10. And if Okami is telling the truth about certain details, likeWarzone being squads onlyand a free-to-play, separate client fromModern Warfare, then it would indeed lend more credibility to theirModern Warfare 2 Remasteredclaims. However, there are other reasons to think thatModern Warfare 2 Remasteredcould be coming out this year instead of a newCall of Dutygame.

For one, Activision has so far declined to reveal the developer of this year’sCall of Dutygame, which is likely due to Treyarch having to take over the project from Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software. It’s possible that Treyarch needs more time to finish its game, and soModern Warfare 2 Remasteredwill be releasing this year instead. Secondly, this isn’t even the first time that we’ve heard ofModern Warfare 2 Remastered. In fact, aratings board leakedModern Warfare 2 Remasteredlast year, so there’s more evidence than just Okami’s claims.

Of course, it’s possible thatModern Warfare 2 Remasteredwill launch this year alongside a brand newCall of Duty, like howModern Warfare Remasteredrelease withInfinite Warfare. It’s also possible that it’s not in development at all. While there is indeed evidence thatModern Warfare 2 Remasteredcould exist in some capacity, fans should still take these claims with a massive grain of salt. Like any video game rumor, fans should wait for a confirmation from an official source before getting too excited.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remasteredis rumored to be in development for unspecified platforms.
