TheCall of Dutyfranchise is no stranger to leaks and speculation. In fact,Call of Duty: Modern Warfarehas seen its own fair share since it launched last year with fans learning about the free to play battle royale modeWarzonemuch earlier than Activision or Infinity Ward wanted.Call of Duty 2020has also beenthe target of its own set of rumors, speculation, and leaks many of which indicate that fans will be going back to Vietnam. A new leak appears to shed even more light on the upcoming FPS.

Over on Reddit, one user has shared new information on the upcomingCall of Dutygame which apparently is going to go by the nameCall of Duty: Classifiedor potentiallyCall of Duty: Black Ops. As fans have heard in prior leaks,Call of Duty: Classifiedisn’t going to be a completely new game in the long running franchise. Instead, Treyarch is aiming for the game to be a soft reboot of the first Black Ops game similar to how Infinity Ward rebootedCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfarewith its 2019 release. The information further states that thestory has gone under multiple rewrites, which is consistent with previous reports that the game had troubled development.

Originally based on a story called Fog of War that Sledgehammer Games originally came up with, the new direction brings back fan favorite characters like Frank Woods, Jason Hudson, and Alex Mason, though they won’t be playable. Players will be attempting to uncover covert Soviet operations which include human experimentation during theVietnam War era with a few other Cold War locationsthrown in.

In addition, the story won’t shy away from visceral moments to keep things grounded. This include scenes of torture, gore, and more. The game will also feature references to major moments during this era including the Kennedy Assassination, the Cuban situation and Operation Northwoods, as well as Project MKULTRA, a program of experimentation done on human test subjects which include things like mind control.

Even thoughCall of Duty: Modern Warfarehas continued to be a major boon for Activision, it’s unlikely that the company willmove away from its annual release cyclefor its biggest franchise. With an expected release sometime in October, fans should be expecting to hear more information on Activision’s end of 2020 plans for Call of Duty soon, especially with a number of reveal streams and events planned over the next few weeks and months.
