Apex Legendsmay soon receive a limited-time Hardcore game mode where players have no user interface and loot is much more scarce. LTMs are a popular offering in battle royales, andApex Legendsis no different in that regard. Battle royales are, after all, still a relatively modern phenomena and there a lot of potential for new massively multiplayer experiences yet to be experimented with. Hardcore mode could offerApex Legendsplayers a look at a more exciting way to play the game.
Hardcore modes in multiplayer games aren’t new, of course. The most recent example beingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s popular Hardcore mode, which launched November 16. In the Tier 1 Hardcore mode, players have substantially lower health, a limited user interface, and full friendly fire. It’s a much more intense experience, whereCall of Dutyplayers can be killed quickly. It’s a challenge even for the game’s best players, requiring much more precision and care.

News regarding the rumoredApex LegendsLTM comes from YouTuber Thordansmash. Thordansmash doesn’t provide a source or evidence for his claim, but he says that aHardcore battle royale modeforApex Legendsis currently planned. When it will begin also isn’t clear, but if Thordansmash is to be believed thenApex Legendsfans should look forward to it in the relatively near future.
Hardcore modes are often unique to their respective games, andApex Legends' rumored Hardcore mode is no different. InApex Legends' version of Hardcore, players are given no HUD. There’s no word if players have lower health, but bullets will apparently do more damage than usual. Further, there will be fewer health items to find on the map. In other words, players won’t want to get shot. They may not want to shoot much, either, as ammo will also be scarce.
The goal of a Hardcore mode is to create a more challenging experience, where in-game death can happen unexpectedly and quickly. While that may be true, it’s sometimes also true that less is more. For example,Fortnite’s No Build moderemoved construction and may not be significantly more popular than the original version of the game. It will be exciting to see howApex Legendsplayers respond to a Hardcore mode, and whether aspects of it may be looked at as better than the base battle royale.
For the time being,Apex Legends' potential Hardcore mode is nothing but a rumor. There has been no official announcement or even a hint fromRespawn Entertainmentat this time. If it is coming, fans can expect more information from Respawn in the months to come.
