The future of AAA horror games seems bright as rumors continue to appear about a potentiallygruesomeResident Evil 8in development at Capcom. The company has seen a fair amount of success reinvigorating its iconic series with the release ofResident Evil 7and the remakes ofResident Evil 2and3; the latter of which continuing to see content on account of its asymmetrical multiplayer componentResident Evil: Resistance.
The officialResident EvilTwitter account announced Wednesday thatResident Evil: Resistance’s newest Mastermind, Nicholai Ginovaef, would be released by the end of the week. He is now available to play, and Masterminds can also make use of Nemesis fromResident Evil 3if they download the most recent update. Nicholai is skilled with tracking and camera-mounted firearms, and he is willing to do anything “for the right price” according to Capcom USA Social Media & Community Associate Manager Kellen Haney in a PlayStation Blog post about the update.

Resistancepits four players who are “Survivors” against a single “Mastermind” controlling an experiment they must escape from. The game’s newest Mastermind,Nicholai, was announced in Aprilshortly after the release of Jill Valentine as a Survivor, however it’s currently unknown what will be releasing in June as the most recent title roadmap put out April 17 obscures the month with yellow construction tape.
While not as widely discussed as other multiplayer titles and battle royales, including Epic Games’Fortniteor Respawn Entertainment’sApex Legends,Resident Evil: Resistanceoffers a fun cooperative activity for fans of the long-running horror franchise to return to while potentially stuck at home. While the multiplayer game continues to see content releases, Capcom is also busy working on new titles. During its end-of-fiscal-year financial presentation, Capcom announced it wants to release 13 new titles for this fiscal year. WithResident Evil 3already taking up three slots for various platforms, there may be more bigResident Evilplans coming.
Even if the company is not working onResident Evil 8like many believe, fans may be able to expectResident Evil 4making a comeback to follow up its previous two title. No matter what the developers have planned, new additions like Nicholai toResistanceshould keep people occupied for some time to come.
