It’s unfortunate that Ada Wong’s voice actor Lily Gao has been receiving harassment lately, but fortunately, a lot of people in theResident Evil 4community have been hitting back with messages of positivity for the performer. While there aresome games that don’t warrant a remake, Capcom’sREseries has no doubt benefited from being brought to life for the modern gaming landscape, and the recent reimagining of the iconic fourth entry has been received with a lot of praise.Of course, theResident Evil 4remake differs slightly from the original, taking into account different social attitudes in this day and age, but for the most part, it’s managed to retain what made the 2005 release so beloved. However, not everyone has been pleased with the remake, which has sadly forced one of the game’s voice actors to remove herself from social media. Luckily, a lot of fans are on her side.RELATED:Resident Evil 4 Trick Makes the Chainsaw Sisters a BreezeA number of people over on Twitter have been offering their support and expressing their dismay that a few so-calledResident Evil 4fans have taken to harassing Lily Gao. A thread started by an account called Ada Wong Archives has called out the offending parties who sought out Gao’s Instagram account in order to leave messages that have been described as “sickening” and “deplorable.” A number of others have commented, adding that even if some were not keen on her performance as Wong, she should not be the subject of online abuse. Others, such as user @simplydanart, have said they actually liked her work inRE4, with another user below agreeing with their sentiment.

User @maxinekisses went one step further by compiling a video of Ada’s best lines inRE4. There have, unfortunately, been a few negative responses to this tweet, but, much like the one from Ada Wong Archives, there has also been an outpouring of support for Gao. One commenter did say the only thing they didn’t like about her performance was more down to sound editing rather than the actor herself. Overall, the consensus from fans is that, whether people like or dislike a role, no one deserves to be bullied.

Before the game even came out, there wascontroversy overResident Evil 4’s Ada Wong character, who was no longer being voiced by Jolene Andersen, who took on the role for the 2019 remake ofRE2. Regardless of their reasons for leaving negative feedback on Gao’s Instagram, most would agree that it’s unacceptable to force someone off their social media pages because a disgruntled few were unhappy with the way a voice actor performed.

As one of themost popularResident Evilcharacters, Wong has either appeared or been mentioned in a number of installments in the series, going back to the original game from 1996. The remake has toned down her more seductive traits, but to many, she is still the silent and deadly agent that fans have come to love over the years.

Resident Evil 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
