The lead up to Bungie’s reveal stream forDestiny 2’s next expansion,Lightfall, has already seen its fair share of potential leaks drop online about what The Witness may have in store for guardians. As of this writing, leaks have given potentialLightfallandSeason 18 spoilersfor the respective stories and villains are just a few of the teases making the rounds online. The latest leak to hit the web, though, gives a better idea of the game’s visual tone as the possible keyart forLightfall’s annual pass is out in the proverbial wild.
Keyart for aDestiny 2expansion’s annual pass is nothing new, with Bungie releasing promotional art for the pass going back toForsakenwhen the studio adopted the seasonal content model. The possibleLightfallkeyart, though, shows how the visual tone of the expansion has evolved from the first, more ominous promotional cover from 2020 which showed the Traveler sitting behind a Pyramid ship it to sell the danger facing guardians in the future. However, the new art appears to have traded the original’s darker style for more of a colorful, cyberpunk-inspired style.

The leaked art also gives an idea as to who the big players appear to be whenLightfallreleases in 2023. Osiris and The Witness are clearly visible, teasing Osiris has recovered from his possession at the hands of Savathun while The Witness looms ominously near the center of the art. It also features what appears to be a Darkness-powered Cabal, potentially Calus, alongside The Witness, a mysterious new character to the far-right of the image, and first look at some the new gear guardians may be able to get their hands on.
Finally, there is the cityscape sitting along the bottom of the keyart which, given other leaks, may not be The Last City. As mentioned above, a big part of the leaks has been the reveal of Neptune as a new destination where guardians will receive thenew subclass reportedly named Strand, from a new allied race. Leaks go on to suggest Neptune will be center to the game’s central conflict as guardians race against Calus' forces to find an artifact The Witness wants to use against the Traveler.
The keyart, along with all the compounding leaks, is pointing to some major changes coming toDestiny 2over the next several months. It was to be expected, though, asThe Witch Queen’s ending made it clear The Witness was coming and was bringing the full might of their forces to bear, setting the stage for a grand final showdown in2024’sThe Final Shape, which Bungie has said will bring an end to its Light and Darkness Saga.
