ThePokemonseries may primarily be cute and cuddly, but it’s proven multiple times to be capable of being spooky and a perfect fit for the Halloween season. ThePokemon Center has already unveiled a new line-up of Halloween merchandiseand Niantic’s upcoming plans forPokemon GOhave revealed what the game will be doing to celebrate the occasion.
As part of the GO Battle League’s fourth season, which will begin on September 14th,Pokemon GOplayers can participate in the aptly named Halloween Cup. It will take place from Monday October 26th to Tuesday November 3rd, but participants will be restricted in terms of what Pokemon they can use.

The only Pokemon allowed are those that can be associated with the Halloween season. Specifically, Bug, Dark, Fairy, Ghost, and Poison type Pokemon. The cup will also have a 1500 CP limit, but players who take part can earn reward encounters with special versions of Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle, who will be wearing Halloween costumes, possibly the same ones they’re wearing in the aforementioned Halloween merchandise.
As a reminder, in preparation for the holiday, an event taking place at the end of this month will allow players the chance tobattle Mega Gengarin raids.
Niantic has detailed the schedule for the entirety of Season 4. The Great League will run from Monday September 14th to Monday September 28th, followed by the Ultra League and its Premier Cup, which will begin on the 28th and last until Monday October 12th. Said Premier Cup’s CP limit will be 2500. After that, the Master League and its Premier Cup, which will have no CP limit, will run from October 12th to Monday October 26th. This is then followed by the Halloween Cup.
While the Halloween Cup will end as scheduled, the other three leagues will then all be made available from Tuesday November 3rd to Monday November 9th. Niantic does state that the dates could change and that it will provide updates should that happen.
And as if that wasn’t enough, a limited Flying Cup is set to take place for one night only on Thursday September 24th, from 6pm to 11:59 pm local time. Obviously, only Flying type Pokemon will be allowed but winning battles will reward players with twice the usual Stardust. And anyone who manages to evolve a Pidgeotto during the event will be awarded with a Pidgeot that knows Gust. The full details can be found on Niantic’s website, as well as any changes coming as part of Season 4.
Players certainly aren’t going to be lacking in things to do, as Niantic has previously announcedan incredibly generous Remote Raid Pass bundlethat will become available in a couple of days.
In less positive news for the company, Niantic was recently hit witha lawsuit for supposedly infringing on augmented reality patents.
