Summary
Niantic is giving players a chance to earn Meteorites for free in its next Elite Raid inPokemon GO, but fans are unhappy about the giveaway process. Meteorites are one of the rarest items inPokemon GOconsidering that the only reliable way of getting them is through research rewards, and fans are always looking to get more of it to Mega Evolve their Rayquaza.
With the Shared Skies season kicking off inPokemon GO, a plethora of exciting events are taking place in the game. A couple of regional iterations of GO Fest have already concluded, and the last one is right around the corner. With thehighly anticipated debut of Necrozma inPokemon GO, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the Global variant as well. Amid that, Niantic announced a new event, and one of the aspects hasn’t gone down well in the community.

A new post on The Silph Road subreddit highlights theupcoming Elite raid event announced by Niantic. Players will be given the golden opportunity to catch Rayquaza inPokemon GO, and there will also be a Meteorite giveaway. If thePokemon GOTikTok page gains 38.4k more followers, then the developer will give away Meteorite codes. However, considering how things have been in the past, fans are a bit skeptical about the giveaway.
Niantic’s Rayquaza Meteorite Giveaway Infuriates Fans
As highlighted by several other players, the fact that the announcement mentions “codes,” it is likely that there will only be a limited number of them that will be given out. One such event players recalled was the GO Fest 2020 Puzzle, where the code was revealed letter by letter on the Twitter page. The giveaway went live only for a few minutes, so barely any players were able toredeem thePokemon GOcode.
That’s not all, as some fans who are not on TikTok are also unhappy with the idea that they need to download and register on a new app to help reach the goal of this event. That being said, it is quite likely that milestone will be met by the time the event goes live. Meteorite is a necessary item forteaching Dragon Ascent to Rayquaza, without which it cannot Mega Evolve. Players are often looking to Mega Evolve more than one Rayquaza, and the event will give only one guaranteed Meteorite to the player. While there have been Meteorite drops from raids in the past, they have been extremely rare so depending on research is the only way. Whether Niantic breaks tradition and gives away more codes this time around remains to be seen.
