Pokemon ScarletandVioletare coming out three months from now, and despite the three official trailers released thus far, fans know surprisingly very little about all the new pocket monsters that are supposed to come with Gen 9 games. Recently, aPokemonleaker stated thatPokemon ScarletandViolet’s exact number of critters in the Paldean Pokedex will be 105, not counting forms like regional variants, which are allegedly only four – one for Wooper and three for Tauros, each with different type combinations. Out of this astronomical total of new critters,Pokemonfans only know about 11 of these creatures featured in Gen 9 in terms of official information, but many leaks have flooded the Internet over the past months.

BecausePokemon ScarletandVioletwon’t be adding a new type, Gen 9 is a great occasion for The Pokemon Company to add new critters that have unique type combinations that have never been seen before. As of now, there are 16 unused Pokemon type combinations in the mainline series, and according to the leaks aboutPokemon ScarletandViolet, several of them will be finally implemented in the games. Today, a full visual representation of the Paldean Pokedex was shared over Twitter, and it includes all the various Pokemon that are allegedly part of Gen 9, and that includes some unused type combinations that fans have been asking for.

Explaining Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Leaked Unused Type Combos

According to the leaks,Pokemon ScarletandVioletwill feature a Fire/Grass Pokemonin the form of a chili pepper evolution line, which makes sense both inspiration-wise due to Paldea being based on Spain, and theme-wise due to the spicy nature of peppers. Fire/Grass is a particularly interesting combination because it’s only weak to three types and resists four, and it has wide type coverage offensively. Initially, it was believed that the Gen 9 Fire/Grass Pokemon would be Smoliv’s evolution, but making it a chili pepper makes much more sense.

The leaked Pokedex also portrays Pawmi as the first ever Electric/Fighting Pokemon in the series, which has been rumored ever since the second trailer forPokemon ScarletandVioletcame out. Much like a Fire/Grass critter, Electric and Fighting are supereffective against seven types total, and when combined they take double damage from three types and half damage from five, which is a great tradeoff. Seeing howPawmi’s evolutionwas leaked weeks ago, it only makes sense that this critter is becoming an Electric/Fighting hybrid based on its looks.

The next one is not as straightforward as the other two, but the leaks mention a Pokemon based on the aye-aye, a lemur with long fingers, that could potentially be the first Normal/Poison Pokemon ever. This is because this critter was hinted at by mentioning the spray can that some NPCs are wielding in thethird trailer forPokemon Scarlet and Violet, and these characters could be associated with a Poison-type-wielding villain team for Gen 9. Unlike the first two type combinations, which were both talked about by leakers, this one is currently not confirmed, even though it would make sense.

Lastly, aleaker confirmedPokemon ScarletandViolet’s Poison/Steel Pokemontwo weeks ago. This is yet another unused Pokemon type combination, and in this case, the critter employing it is supposed to be an engine Pokemon, allegedly acting as the literal engine of the truck shown inPokemon ScarletandViolet’s third trailer. Poison and Steel is an incredible combo because this Pokemon will resist nine types, be immune to one, and only receive supereffective damage from two types, even though it’s a bit lacking on the offensive side. Overall, Gen 9 sounds great for fans who want to see more diversity, so hopefullyPokemon ScarletandViolet’s future trailers confirm some of the leaks.

PokemonScarletandVioletrelease on June 13, 2025, for the Nintendo Switch.
