Pikunikustarts with a very distinct introduction when Mr Sunshine offers the residents of the world free money in exchange for letting his giant robots roam freely. Undoubtedly eye-catching, if nothing else. Who would’ve guessed that the suspicious free-money guy wasactually the villain? Naturally, when the protagonist, Piku, awakens in the game, they must deal with the consequences.

This culminates in an incredibleadventure puzzle game, with four battles against Mr Sunshine’s giant robots which all take place in the different areas of the game. All with incredible, different methods for winning, complete with incredible theme tunes. While the entirety ofPikunikuis incredibly fun, and the game has so much character and originality. These boss fights are undoubtedly one of the best parts of the game.

4Giant Robot Of The Valley
This boss fight is actually more of a “boss escape”, as the player does no actual fighting in this one. Instead, the goal here is to evade the robot long enough to lead him to the rebels, who destroy it with a laser. This is one of the most straightforward boss battles in the game, due to theobjective of running away, but there are still many elements which make it an exciting part of the game.
First and foremost is the fact that there are multiple ways to win. There are many paths in the course of this boss battle, some slower than others, and they all use the player’s previous knowledge of the game brilliantly. From secret underground passages to places where players have to roll to climb. There’s even a reference to the monster from the early part of the game. All this together with an incredible theme tune and the thrill of when the boss gets too close make for an exciting level.
3Giant Robot Of The Forest
The giant robot of the forest is the first boss the player will encounter within the game. And for a first boss, it can be quite tricky. to defeat this giant robot the player has to evade its giant saw and then kick exploding acorns at it, which are provided by the rebels. The saw can easily catch players off guard the first time they play this boss, and the acorns are easy to miss.

This sense of difficulty however makes for a very rewarding feeling once the boss battle is over. And since the next boss battle happens almost immediately after this one, the difficulty of this otherwise simple boss fight makes for a good introduction to the other giant robots. Especially when it comes to some of the more difficult ones later on. It is also a great introduction to the rebels, who becomesome of the best charactersinPikuniku.
2Giant Robot Of Sunshine Inc./ Volcano
This is one of thetwo final bossesofPikuniku, and the penultimate fight before the player has to face Mr Sunshine himself. The objective of this boss battle is to avoid its giant laser while staying on the platforms and avoiding falling into the lava. In each phase of the battle a different part/parts of the platform are removed, upping the difficulty. This goes on until, finally, the characters controlling the robot decide they are not getting paid enough for this, which is one of the funniest bits of dialogue in the game.
The feeling of end-game jitters is incredibly present in this boss battle, combined with an incredible theme tune, characteristic of this game. It is an excellent setup for the final battle with Mr Sunshine, as the sense of excitement after finishing this boss fight carries over to the next battle immediately after it. This is the part of the game where players simply cannot stop playing, and it is an incredibleway to endthis consistently fantastic game.
1Giant Robot Of The Lake
The giant robot of the Lake is easily the best boss battle withinPikuniku. While it is the most difficult battle, it is also the most interactive, thrilling, and rewarding boss fight in the game. The objective is to stay on the platforms, held up in the air by blown-up worm-balloons while avoiding the robot’s various water attacks. Then chasing after it when it goes to refill in the lake, only to get stuck in its giant straw and destroy it. This is repeated three times.
This boss has one of the best themes in the entire game, so fun that it can be listened to outside the game with the same level of excitement. The feeling of winning thisboss fight is incredibly rewarding, due to the high difficulty of this boss battle. It is also a great example of the game’s charming humor and character. Plus, it leads to the player being captured by Mr Sunshine, resulting in the funniest objective within the game- “Oops, you got captured”.
