Before going on a break, Oda made sure to leaveOne Piecefans with something to ponder over. The latest chapter gave the fans some much-needed information pertaining to two former Warlords, namely, Dracule Mihawk and Crocodile. There was a great deal of speculation about their bounties, and finally, Oda decided to give the fans what they wanted.
Both Crocodile and Mihawk have very high bounties, which is not surprising considering how powerful they are. Crocodile has been assigned a bounty of 1,965,000,000 berries, while Mihawk has a bounty of 3,590,000,000 berries. Mihawk’s ridiculously high bounty has attracted a lot of attention and sparked numerous debates within theOne Piececommunity about whether he deserves such a huge bounty.

Marine Hunter
Dracule Mihawk is one of the most powerful characters in the series, but that alone is not enough to have such a high bounty. One particular detail that stood out from Crocodile’s conversation with Mihawk was regarding the latter’s past. Before becoming a Shichibukai, Mihawk was a Marine Hunter, which is quite surprising, but it ties nicely with the fact that his student, Zoro used to be a bounty hunter as well.
If Mihawk took down loads of Marines, then it is possible that his bounty was already very high before it was frozen. Most pirates try to stay away from the Marines as they have a lot of powerful fighters, so if someone went after the Marines out of their own free will, they would have to do something to stop him. The obvious choice was to offer Mihawk the position of the Shichibukai, thus killing two birds with one stone. With Mihawk becoming a Shichibukai, not only did they manage to stop him from hunting Marines, but they also got him to do their bidding. Mihawk wasn’t against the idea of joining the Warlords because he received several privileges with the position.

The Strongest Swordsman
Dracule Mihawk is known as the “Strongest Swordsman in the World.” It is unclear when he received the title, but it was unquestionably years prior to the current storyline. In his career, Mihawk has certainly fought against some very big names, but none of them are as famous as Shanks. It has been confirmed several times that Mihawk and Shanks used to be rivals in the past, but after Shanks lost his arm, Mihawk gave up on the rivalry. Shanks went on to become a Yonko and managed to pull clear in terms of power.
Mihawk is known to be petty, and he can hold a grudge over the smallest of things. This was highlighted in the Baratie arc when Don Krieg’s entire pirate fleet was wiped out by Mihawk. Apparently, Krieg’s fleet had disturbed Mihawk’s nap, and the latter had followed them all the way to East Blue.

Mihawk was used by the World Government in the Summit War against Whitebeard. In the war, Mihawk fought against Vista. Many people expected that Mihawk would have made short work of Vista, but the latter proved to be an equal match for him. Mihawk also had minor clashes with other characters including, Crocodile, and Daz Bones. Despite facing so many strong opponents on Marineford, Mihawk managed to remain unscathed, which is quite impressive.
Also, it would be better if Mihawk took on a Navy Admiral or another powerful character as it would provide a better idea of where he stands in terms of strength. It is essential that Oda gives the readers some kind of idea about Mihawk’s power. After saving him for such a long time, it would be underwhelming to not see him fight anyone else before eventually being taken down by Roronoa Zoro.
His Future
After the Shichibukai system was abolished, the future of the members was up in the air. After losing their privileges, they were once again ordinary pirates, and the Marines wasted no time in sending out their forces to capture them. The Marines were seen surrounding Mihawk’s place, but he was not stressed by it. However, he did admit to Crocodile that dealing with wave after wave of Marines was annoying, and he would like to get rid of it.After hearing Crocodile’s proposal, Mihawk was quite pleased and decided to join the Cross Guild.
While Buggy is considered the poster child for the organization, the real leaders are Crocodile and Mihawk. Crocodile has been in the New World for a very long time, and there is no doubt that he has other cards up his sleeve, and having the support of someone like Mihawk would benefit him. The two seem to be on good terms, but there is no telling what their goal is. Mihawk has openly declared that he has no interestin becoming a Yonkoas it would be a hassle, and he would rather live a quiet life.
Furthermore, he made it clear that it would be better if Buggy took the punishment that the World Government plans on dishing out. So, Mihawk is perfectly fine with Buggy being the Yonko. The Cross Guild has already started putting bounties on the heads of Marines, which is going to cause a lot of problems for the upholders of justice. It is possible that at some point, Mihawk might start hunting them again, as he has the backing of an entire organization now.
