Summary
Based on what’s been shown off ahead of The Final Shape expansion’s upcoming release, most of the buildcrafting tools and gear coming in this expansion will seemingly giveDestiny 2’s current meta some serious competition. In particular, the new Prismatic Subclass and the Exotic class items coming toDestiny 2look extremely powerful.
While players have gotten a glimpse of the new Subclass and what kind of Exotic armor to expect from this expansion, there has been little to no information revealed so far about what to expect from the Exotic weapons coming in The Final Shape. Even with this in mind though, there are a few specificExotic weapons thatDestiny 2should consider addingin this upcoming expansion that are based on an existing Exotic. Specifically, it would be a missed opportunity not to add more weapons like the Tesselation Exotic fusion rifle that synergize with the new and existing Subclasses.

Destiny 2’s Tesselation Exotic Should Spark a Chain Reaction
The Tesselation Exotic fusion rifle was first introduced inDestiny 2when thepre-orders for The Final Shape expansionbecame available. Any player who owns this expansion will get this Exotic weapon, but players can potentially obtain the Tesselation before The Final Shape releases as a pre-order bonus from purchasing any edition of the expansion.
The Tesselation Exotic Fusion Rifle’s Perks
While it may not be one ofDestiny 2’s current meta weapons, the Tesselation is still a useful weapon that players shouldn’t overlook. Tesselation is one of the most unique Exotic weapons in the game, as it’s currently the only Exotic weapon that can swap between every Light and Dark element inDestiny 2. It’s also one of the few weapons in the energy slot that can utilize Strand and Stasis damage, which is normally exclusive to primary and heavy weapons, or weapons with the Permeability and Osmosis perks.
The Tesselation currently doesn’t have an Exotic Catalyst, and while it hasn’t been confirmed, one is anticipated to be released for this weapon in The Final Shape expansion.
What makes this weapon so special leading into The Final Shape era ofDestiny 2is its synergy with the player’s equipped Subclass. So, with this expansion introducingthe new Prismatic Subclass, the versatility of the Tesselation fusion rifle weapon will soon be unmatched.
How Destiny 2 Could Introduce New Exotic Weapons Like the Tesselation Fusion Rifle
With the main gimmick of the Tesselation being that it can synergize with any Light and Dark Element, ifDestiny 2were to introduce any new weapons inspired by this Exotic, this feature would generally have to be replicated. However, outside of this, there are plenty of ways to differentiate new weapons meaningfully while still retaining inspiration from the Tesselation.
For starters, the Tesselation’s Exotic weapon perk provides multiple opportunities for new weapons to capitalize on. Given that the Tesselation gains power from consuming grenades, other Exotic weapons can derive power from a guardian’s super, melee, or class ability.
Outside potentially having unique interactions with some of the other abilities at the player’s disposal, new Exotic weapons inDestiny 2inspired by the Tesselation could also benefit from experimenting with other weapon types. Not only would this give players more freedom to use a wider range of energy weapons, but it could also lead to these kinds of weapons becoming primary and heavy weapons. Ultimately, the Tesselation Exotic is the perfect blueprint that should be expanded upon to bring a similar, yet fresh variety of weapons toThe Final Shape expansionand beyond.
