Nintendo has reported a drop in both its hardware and software sales. Looking at the former, the Nintendo Switch console has managed to surpass 111 million units sold, distributing 3.43 million consoles last quarter. However, this still marks a drop of 22% compared to the sales of the Nintendo Switch console last year. This year-on-year decline was somewhat expected by Nintendo, as in Maysupply issues for the Switchwere reported to decrease console sales, but these issues were only supposed to cause a drop of 10% in sales, less than half of the actual percentage decrease.

As stated, Nintendo’s software sales have also seen a decline. In the previous quarter, the company’s software sales totaled 41.41 million units, dropping by 8.6%. The mobile profits for Nintendo also saw a drop of 16%. Unlike with the hardware figures, where Nintendo blames the semiconductor shortages for its drop, it seems that there is no similar factor to take the fall for the dip in software sales. This is not to say that recent Nintendo games have not been impressive in their sales figures, though, as the company reportsKirby and the Forgotten Landis a huge success, reaching 4.53 million units sold at the time of writing.
Another game that released in Nintendo’s most recent financial quarter has also done well in terms of sales.Nintendo Switch Sportshas impressed the company, with nearly five million copies of the title being sold since its release in late April. According to the financial report, the success ofNintendo Switch Sportshas heavily supported Nintendo’s software sales, and the company has high hopes for the game in long-term sales growth. Already, it’s clear to see Nintendo’s long-term plans withNintendo Switch Sportsas the game will be adding new sportssuch as golf in future updates.
Even with the success ofKirby and the Forgotten Landas well asNintendo Switch Sports, Nintendo is still reporting its aforementioned software sales decline, something that may concern a few fans. However, it is unlikely that the company will continue downwards as the financial year progresses, as it has a few major titles coming to theNintendoSwitch before 2022 is finished.Bayonetta 3recently revealed an October release date, for example, andSplatoon 3is set to launch this September too, making for an exciting Fall for Nintendo fans.
