Out of all the upcoming films slated to release in 2023, Christopher Nolan’sOppenheimeris no doubt one of the biggest, as the impressive ensemble is worth the price of admission alone. Now well underway in its production, new set photos continue to pour in, giving viewers a closer look at some of the stars in their new roles, this time Emily Blunt as Katherine Oppenheimer.
Universal’sOppenheimer, which is based on the 2005 Pulitzer Prize winnerAmerican Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, will center on theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) and his involvement with the creation of the atom bomb. The A-listOppenheimerensemblealso includes Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Kenneth Branagh, Casey Affleck and many more.

Continuing filming in California near the University of California, Berkeley, new set photos from the Daily Mail have emerged, offering a closer look at Blunt’s character, Katherine Oppenheimer, the wife of Robert. Blunt can be seen sporting a navy blue outfit. It’s clear that the photos were taken between scenes, as she can also be seen enjoying a drink and wearing comfortable footwear while also chatting it up with Murphy. While it’s still unclear how Blunt’s character will serve the story, it will likely be a pivotal role, considering many of the behind-the-scenes photos have shown her with Murphy.
Whatever the case may be, Nolan is known for building relationships with the same actors over numerous films, so this could potentially be the start of a long-time collaboration between Blunt and Nolan. Murphy, who auditioned for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman inNolan’sBatman Begins, was eventually cast as the fearful Scarecrow in that film and its sequels. Murphy would then go on to appear in Nolan’s other works, includingInceptionandDunkirk.
As for plot details, much of that remains a mystery. The film seems to be one of the filmmaker’s most straightforward stories on paper, especially when he’s toyed with structure and convention throughout his whole career. However, Murphy feels that Nolan has another trick up his sleeve, believingOppenheimerwill be something differentfrom what moviegoers are expecting.
Oppenheimerwill be thefirst Nolan film under Universal Pictures, as the director parted ways with Warner Bros. due to the director’s frustration with the studios' 2021 hybrid model of having their 2021 films premiere on the HBO MAX streaming service simultaneously with their theatrical release. Nolan is set to write, while Emma Thomas, Nolan’s creative partner and wife, will produce with Charles Roven.
